Super Jet pump shoe: this can't be right, can it?

had to pull my pump, and decided to go all the way and replace the pump seal too. First time I noticed that the previous owner may have installed the aluminum pump shoe wrong. Please see the pic...the bottom of the wear ring bore seems to be pretty flush with the bottom of the shoe bore, but the top of the wear ring is way above the top of the shoe opening...by close to 3 mm it looks like.

I'm assuming I should pull it and grind it so that the bores line up? I need to grind the bottom also as it sticks way below the bottom of the hull. Any suggestions for how to best grind it and/or get the 5200 off to get it out?

Also, this ski had an R&D aquavein grate on it (not sure if it's the standard or pro 2, but it has 1 rib in front of the scoop and 2 behind it if that matters)...and the rear-most wings on the grate are about 1" forward of the show wings, basically like the pic in this thread:

Grind the grate back too, so it matches the shoe?

Thanks!

most pump shoes will need to be ground to match opening of pump.
the bottom should be flush with hull also.
break out the grinder.

pull the wear ring and measure both the opening of shoe and ring, most important thing is right theyre.they have to match. on my bone stock 08 sxr (completely different design) but it must of been a friday install because the left side of the shoe with the ski turned upside was a good 1/4 higher on one side

Thanks guys...I guess I know what I have to do. The impeller clearance to the wear ring is still in spec, and I checked the alignment of the pump to midshaft recently, so I trust the wear ring size and location. I'm not looking forward to trying to get that shoe out of there...

By the way, any idea what screws are supposed to be used to hold in the shoe? Are there supposed to be inserts in the hull? Can't see with the shoe still in there. The screws that were in there were like a self-tapping tapered thread (like a sheet metal screw), not a standard bolt (machine) thread...and they took no effort to get out, so I've gotta do something.

thats all they are is self tappers, just buy stainless ones obviously, any oem yamaha site on the mircofiche should say the length but id say no more than 5/8 depending on the thickness of your pump shoe
