Super Jet Pump Issue

I couldn't get my ski to plane out even though the motor sounded like it was running good. Then when I turned it immediately hooked up and planed out. It feels like it is just cavitating when I am going straight but as soon as I turn it hooks up and comes to life. After it planes out it pulls just fine. I haven't pulled the pump apart yet was hoping someone would have an idea what could cause that. The impeller doesn't even have a ding in it and seems to be a good fit with almost no gap all the way around it. It is all completely stock pump/impeller/intake grate. Any ideas?

have you had pump out recently? A common leak area is the pump to shoe seal not being tight or completely sealing anymore and airleak here causing cavitation.

No, I haven't had the pump out. I just got the ski and found this out on the first ride. So do I just pull the intake grate and look to see if everything is sealed up well? I am not sure exactly where the shoe is.

the shoe is the big black thing that the pump sits against and the intake great mounts too

its a rubber seal between he pump and shoe shine a torch in there and look to see if you can see light from the seal

I had the same thing happen to me 2 summers ago. Definitely just check/fix/replace your pump shoe and your cavitation issues will be gone.
