:banghead: ok...i guess i have been chasing this prob for about 2 weeks now...ok ski wouldnt go over about 1/4 throttle after about 10 min in the water....so i rebuilt the carb, put all new fuel lines, had all electronics checked, new battery.......ok ......and today i was outside messin with it...and i finnally see a puff of smoke come from under the motor...right where the drain plug is (89 650SX) ....so as i played more with the throttle the more i seen the smoke...and sometimes i just heard the puff but no smoke...so i put my hand down there...and yes its comming from the drain plug.... everytime it would puff ski would fall on its face...then when it stopped ski would rev...just like it should.....what do you think would cause this?? bad spring on the release?? or something worse?? or should i just block it off alltogether?? if i should block it off does anyone sell the block off plate??

Thanks again,
RR

from what I've read the crankcase drains on those things need to be blocked off. They end up corroding and sticking open and they are really not worth having, just pull the plugs and crank while ski is on its side to get water out of the motor. I'm sure Hot Products sells the block-off, hit Magoo up.

I've owned 3 650SX's, and yes take that crankcase drain unit off and block it. I'd block off your oil injection too if you havent already. Its a nightmare waiting to happen...

My very first ski I bought(88 650SX) in early 1990 fried the oil injector and the ski ran lean and grenaded.

I have that crankcase drain blocked off on my 750 x2 motor. They are notorious for going bad and causing problems.

You could prolly make your own block off plate, it's just a triangle shaped hunk of Stainless steel. You could maybe make it out of alum strip from Lowe's, cut some gasket material to fit just as well I think.

I have just drilled and tapped the two holes for a 1/8" NPT pipe plugs to seal them up.

Ya thats handy if you already have the motor apart..

cause dont want to be tappin' and having shavings go inside your crankcase when the motor is together.
