problems with compression

i have a 93 waveblaster, all stock. last year it ran perfect, put some stabil in the gas and stored it all winter and now it wont start. i tried it a few weeks ago and the plugs kept getting full of gas. now today it acts like its not getting gas at all. spark was good and i put in new plugs just to be safe.

then i decided to try a compression test, and the gauge read about 40-50 psi on both cylinders. i pulled the head off and the back cylinder wall is almost in perfect shape, and the front one is a bit worn but it doesnt seem TOO bad. anyone got any advice for me here? i dont have alot of experience with small engines like this, so help me out please. also if i do have to rebuild, what is the best route to go? just get the cylinders cleaned up and new standard pistons or are there some reliable ways to get more power while im at it? thanks.

another quick question, how much wear on the cylinder wall is too much? also i've heard alot of guys saying as long as your compression is the same for each cylinder (which it is) then your probly fine and the gauge is off, any easy way to tell if its just the gauge? thanks again.

Simple: try another gauge and see if the results are the same.

I think you just have to clean it up real good and replace the rings. It all depends....

I'm not sure on this. I'll be sure to keep watching. Test the gauge on your truck/car and see it you get low readings.

i figured i'd tear into the engine a little and see what it looked like and sure enough the pisons were kinda tore up. the bottom side of the front one was missing big chunks and there was a nice chunk out of the edge on the rear one. so any advice on the rebuild? anything to be sure and do or not do?

I'd tear apart the bottom end and check for damage. Sounds like U may have eaten something.

IMO: U need a complete rebuild to be sure.

kinda what i'm thinking. tomorrow im gonna try to get everything out and look at it and see what i need to replace. anyone have any recommendations for me there?

also whats a good aftermarket exhaust for it? i was thinking since i have everything tore apart i might as well do it now since i kinda wanted to eventually anyways.

one last question, anyone have a link for a good walkthrough on the rebuild to make sure i do everything right? never rebuilt one before so i dont wanna f it up. thanks alot guys.

Pull the engine. It'll make examining easier.

My recommendations is to get a shop manual. My 550 manual has some real good detailed instructions on rebuilding.
