Pro-Tec DDP pipe ????

Boris

The Good Old Days
Just picked up a '90 square nose 650 and it has a Pro-Tec pipe on it. The pipe was installed along with some funky intake grate probably when the ski was new or close to it
I looked on Pro-Tecs site and couldn't find anything about this pipe(I guess they don't make them any more).

Can anyone tell me if this is a pipe worth keeping ?
Should I be checking something that is a common problem with these pipes ?

I thought I saw a faint trace of smoke coming out of the water lines (turned out to be just steam) and it got me thinking.

Any info at all would be appreciated.

Thank you, mister.

I guess I should leave things alone than, at least until the time comes to upgrade to a 701.

Time to look for a prop and a grate and not bother with the pipe.

The prop is stock with major burn and chipped edges (it has to go) and the grate is some funky thing that looks like the stocker with the middle bars cut out.
The grate is basically just 2 bars running close to the sides of the intake tunnel.
It does have the letters "WF" embossed right where it meets the pump shoe.
I don't even think that a PWC museum would want it.

The ski unhooks too easy and gets real squirmy when I chop the throttle at speed (if 40MPH can be classified as speed:biggrin: ).
Kind of like my GPR when I was getting close to 70MPH with the stock intake grate (scary sudden change of direction which usually resulted in an instant ejection).

The SJ is still the most fun I've had riding in years.
