he area between the fuel pump check valves and restrictor is a higher pressure than the fuel lines/tank, and the area between the needle valve/jets is a lower pressure.

Alright, that makes sense then. However, I keep wondering why I solved my primer-drizzle problem by switching the location of the take-off fitting.
The return line has less fuel flow through it. Could that be it?

No idea. How do you know you were dripping fuel on landing **while riding** since you can't see in the carbs then?

I checked the carbs at idle (w/o fa's) and found fuel drizzling in at just above idle (where the engine shakes a bit).
On rough landings, the ski would load up and take a while to clear out.

Relocating the primer take-off fitting solved the problem.

All three things put together, I conclude that I was dribbling fuel into the carbs from primer line on landings.

EDIT: I suspect the primer bulb (JSS) is a rather weak link here. I have read several accounts of similar problems using that bulb.

JSS's primer bulb is not very good for our uses IMO. I had a buddy hydrolock his ski WITH FUEL thanks to one like JSS sells, way back in '93 or '94. We swore we'd never use them again.

Yeah...I figured. Last year I ran the pump style off the main fuel in line, without a problem.

the dribbling problem was solved because you probabaly put the tee in an area of the return line that did NOT have fuel pooled up.

you were dripping air.

:haha:

damn i have a JSS bulb primer.. what were you guys sayin sucked so bad about them? I love teh low profile and theres no way my limit rope will catch on it and snap it off.. but whats wrong with them?

I have one also and have had it for 3 years now. Mine is under the hood and I hardly ever use it unless I get flooded. I am sure they can go bad just like every other primer.

Like stated in my first post I use my return line and where it dips down after the ON/Off switch is where I put my JSS inline T fitting (which is very trick by the way)and there is always fuel in there even after a couple of weeks cause I can't go ridng every day like most of you guys.

however I used my reserve line on my old kawi 750sx and it worked flawlessly for years .I only switched to my return line because I was having carb issues which turned out to be a rebuild from Magoos .

I keep hearing that's not a good idea, as starting fluid carries no oil to lubricate the motor with.

carry a turkey baster tube ( big assed syringe) I did that for a long time.

Ive used starter fluid alot too.
not ideal but it works.

hell a straw works if you can reach fresh fuel in the tank!

For cases where there's no fuel in the primer or there is no primer, simply cover up the air intake on the flame arrestor with one or two hands, and crank.
It'll suck up gas from the tank very quickly.
