Before you even begin sanding, you must remove all waxes, mold release agents etc. I've had good results using Interlux products. I don't think you are painting a yacht but yachtpaint.com is a great source of information. I've always used Interlux 202 solvent wash before sanding and painting anything that goes in the water. Stuff is super flamable and bad for the brain and skin so you will need heavy nitrile gloves and respirator with the proper cartridge. Prep is essential to a good paint job. Then choose what paint system you want to use and follow the manufacturers directions exactly. I use Brightside paint on any boat that is not stored in the water.
