Hi, I am new to standups, but not new to working on skis. I really want a superjet and I found this project ski. Guy wants $1000 for it. Says pole was broken but repaired, pre-mix, and 701 conversion. It looks to be the gold painted 701 out of the wetjet? Not quite sure. Says it runs good. Basically it just looks like it needs a good cleaning? What do you guys think? Is it a good deal? Can I fix it up and have only $2000 in it total? Here are some pics.

It is runs good and has good compression, $1000 seems legit. Offer him a little less and see what happens. You could easily have under $2000 into it....but that all depends on how you like to do things. I always tend to rip apart the whole ski and upgrade everything, and destroying my original budget figure lol.

Awesome thanks for the response! Like you said I will rip apart the entire ski, but I probably won't upgrade much until I make sure I want to keep it. Never had a standup before so I want to be sure I like it. I'll probably just make sure it's not missing pieces and get it real clean. Maybe a paint job.

Well I went to look at it and it was a piece of junk. It started right up but had low compression. # 1 had 120 and # 2 had 130. It had gouges under the hull, pto and driveshaft couplers were so far apart only the rubber damper between them was keeping the engine attached to the driveshaft, exhaust mounts broken, and just overall in horrible shape. One of the first things I asked was what ratio he premixes at. He said 50:1 with race gas and his Stihl chainsaw oil! Couldn't believe it.
