Pole cut at top?

Wondering if the top of a stock RN pole can be cut and slipped back in? Mine is loose and figured if I’m taking it apart I might as well shorten it there if possible. Also what size are the SS rivets?

Yes, you can used Marine Tex, or Epoxy to glue it back in, The rivets are there to really hold in place until the adhesive sets. You can shorten it also the same way. I preferred to do it from the bottom.
