300/440/550 Please tell me what i got

A buddy of mine gave me this ski with the impression that it was a 1990 440. He didn't know much about it or its history. I looked up the VIN and saw that it had a 78 as the last two digits. So from what i can tell the hull is a 1978. Strike one against him. My next question to my self was if the hull is a 78 what else is from that year. Opened her up and found this carb. Anybody know what size this is? Stamp on the side says "Mikuni Carb" but no size. He also said that it runs, but only when you poor gas into the carb. Had a coworker look at these pictures and he said the pulse line is likely missing. Note the green tube east of the smiling labradore and north of the "P" from the word "Porting" possibly whats left of the pulse line? so strike two for him. Also anybody got any good websites or how to's for fixing fiberglass. There are a couple of cracks on the nose and i would like to fix them myself. By the way this is my first ski, i have rode one once and when this thing came along, i saw a possible diamond in the rough and i would like to restore it to showroom condition. im gonna post some more randome pics i took of her and if anyone can tell me anything of what they see please let me know.

thanks.

Its definitely a 440, has a "Mariner" rideplate, aftermarket exhaust, and best of all a rear exhaust.

Good thing is that it runs with gas poured in, most likely you will just need to pull the carb and clean it, they usually do after sitting for god knows how long.

One last thing, don't pour too much money into it, it will be a fun ski to learn on but thats about it besides cutting it up and throwing a big cc engine into it.

it sgonna need at least a carb rebuild the pulse line is the fuel line that goes from the right side of the carb to the bottom end and dont worry about the cracks unless they are real bad id leave them alone and the carb is a mikuni bn 38 just stock but it does have an adapter for an aftermarket flame arrester that pipe looks like an old coffman or kerker good pipes but they had problems early on with the water jackets corroding and letting water drip down into the motor

but thats awesome my first ski was in WAAAAYYYY worse cond. and i still ride it as a backup today god luck

looks like an old race boat.
exhaust is reversed with the rear exhaust mod.gonna be pretty loud unless they also put a silencer in line.
carb is a 38 bn.
could be a 440 bored to 550 but you'd have to take head off to measure.

Not a stock air filter either, the stock one is a black cover. Rear exhaust is great because you wont be inhaling those nasty fumes. Nice looking ski, very fun out on the water.

For free, thats a great deal! I just sold a 440 550 westcoast exhaust for $175, there still is a market for 440/550 stuff.

BTW - I have carb kits for that Mikuni BN carb. they are $20 + $6 shipping Priority(2-3 day).
