ok, went to the lake again today in 60 deg air / 60 deg water determined to tune this thing better and not put it away for the winter "broken". Left frustrated with no improvements.
Main problem: after gettin' on it (say, more than 2/3 throttle for a second or so), and then dropping back to idle or 1/4 throttle, it is loaded up very badly. If I give it some gas and feather it, it blubbers and revs drop. If I give it a few seconds, it will clear itself and rip again. Short blips of the throttle are fine.
It also cuts out on me (stalls) after 3 or 4 secs at full throttle.
Carbs just had full rebuilds, including new jets, N&S, one-way diaphrams and check valve "flaps" on top of everything else. carbon tech reeds are brand new also.
stock mikuni dual 38's
1.5 N&S
pop-off measured at 38psi (95g spring)
75 pilot
135 main
low adjuster: 1 1/2
high adjuster: 1 1/4
62t / 61x, proks, b-pipe ltd, carbon tech 202lt reeds, 35cc domes (measured at 185psi)
stator was just rebuilt and charge coil rewound
pop-off used to be 55 with 1.5N&S and 70 Pilot, that's what gets me. It should have been really lean like that, right? it ran good like that up until a few weeks ago, somehow.
is my pop-off too low now? was also wondering if I was cooling the engine too much...but it seems to consistently recover after only a second or too. Definitely feels carb related.
