Long story short, I bought a set of 62t cases from tbaer a little while back. He advertised them as having a bad upper starter bolt hole. No other problems. I received them and they were dirty as hell so the first thing I did was tape off all the bearing surfaces and gasket surfaces and start bead blasting. When I pulled them out of the cabinet it was very evident that the rear cylinder was grenaded. It was pitted to hell and actually had an internal and external crack! There was a bed plate bolt broken off in the lower section, one of the bolt holes used to hold the jugs on was stripped. One of the stator bolt holes was stripped and wallered. Two case half bolt holes were stripped. The pulse fitting had jb weld all over the base of it. Bad pulse fitting. And then one more minor thing I didn't even bother mentioning to tbaer, one of the dowel pins that aligns the jugs on the cases, apparently it wasn't split evenly cause the dowel was still there just cocked sideways in the hole and the gasket area around the dowel was cracked off. When I informed Tbaer of my first findings, he said:

i ran those cases and never had a problem. i knew the starter bolt hole was messed up, but i bought those cases from the yamaha dealer used about 2 years ago and never had a problem with them. i sold my blaster that they were in and parted everything out into other skis that i had. everything was working good when i took it all apart and the problem was the starter hole i don't remember a bed plate bolt broken off. if you say it is them i guess it is. i would just drill it out and tap it.
The wording he used suggests I was lying to him. I don't care to lie, I just want my 62t cases as described. All in all, I had to tig weld up the cracks, drill, tap, countersink, and install time serts. Grind down the weld on the interior crack. Drill out a salted up broken off bed plate bolt, and then tig up the stator hole and redrill and tap it. It took me a good 6 hours worth of work and about 30-45 dollars in supplies to get the cases where they should have been. Bad SELLER!

they were indeed 135 dollars. I dont doubt the cost. I'm not upset about the cost. They were cracked cases. With a total of six bolt holes messed up, five of which were so wallered out they had no threads left. But he claims to only know of the one starter bolt. So what am i to do? The bolts holes were obvious. Should i not post this?

in my opinion you shouldn't have posted this, but hey if you feel as though you got screwed then have at it. everyone is entitled to an opinion. everybody sees things differently. I saw a good set of USED cases for 1/3 of what anybody else on here would have tried to sell them for. so hey you put alittle work into them to get the up to your standards. next time you want to resolve something you should maybe pm the person and try to get a phone number and talk them them directly, because emails don't express the tone of what is being said properly and things can be taken the wrong way.

so keep this thread here or delete it, no skin off my back. Pm me if you want to talk about this more and if you want my phone number i'll give it to you through pm

Its all a matter of how they were listed and what he received...the price he paid has no relevance on if he should be making this post or not.

If they were advertised as just needing the starter bolt hole fixed, then thats all it should have needed fixed.
