300/440/550 PJS Pipe

I am pretty sure I know the answer to this question but I figured it didn't hurt to ask. How loud is this PJS waterbox contraption? It looks lke you could feed extra water to it if you needed it to be quite and then cut back when you get away from everyone.


I am trying to build a lightweight X2 hull for flatwater and thought this might be useful. I just don't like to be loud. I figured I might be able to make an adjustable water feed to it for different riding areas.

they are pretty loud, kinda like the old coffman resonators, brian (the guy selling those on ebay) has one on his 650sx and its pretty annoying, but it is light

Hey Pete, I am going with the old fisher brand from a 550, it will use the looped rubber hose then go right side out. They were basically aluminum powder coated cans for 550 rh side exhaust. Thinking of running it out just before the firewall for noise supression.

I like running mine straight out the water box way up front to get it out of the way when I am leaned over in turns. Plus if you run tubbies you don't have to cut through them if the outlet is way in the nose.

What do you guys think dual front exhausts would look like? Lame or Cool? Dual exhaust is alway cool right?

It would look cool, but extra weight. Keep it simple. BTW, I was up late last night talking with Dan (the man) Hansen, he has given me a lot of good ideas. Finally convinced me not to consider swapping in a 701. He couldn't figure out why I wanted to shorten the boat and tubbie it out, but it didn't take long to explain that one...lol.

Yeah I will step up to a Japanese aftermarket cylinder when the time comes. When you get seriously modified there is no advantage to Yamaha power. Polaris power is another story.

As far as hull mods go most things that work in surf are the opposite for a race course. However tubbies are the exception to that rule.

Surf = light nose + loose tail

Race = Planted nose + hooked up

Finally got a pic, I may or may not use the loop hose, depends where I run the exit fitting. This thing is super light.

Louder than stock, but not real bad. Remember it was on a 550.

Got it running and ran it last night for a couple hours, It seems a little quieter than stock. I ended up using radiator flex hose for now, after I install tubbies I will decide where to run the outlett permanently.

That is encouraging that it ended up being quiet.

I ended up getting this for $100 shipped. I think the design can utilize more water pumped in by a dedicated line off the pump regulated by a ball valve located by the steering. It might be quieter by design though. It looks like both chambers work together in parallel rather than one at a time in series which should be quiter to begin with. It should also be lighter than the stock stainless one I have been running.

I am thinking it own adjustable waterline with a Jetworks valve just before the barb into it would be a way to make it work pretty good.

Yeah I have the foam in the nose from a 95 hull that cradles my waterbox, it will cradle this thing somehow. It is lighter and gives me piece of mind that I won't need a fish finder to locate my ski if it sinks.

FYI , I just cut 1 inch off the back of the hull. Found a minor de-lam where I got hit last weekend right at the rear corner. Think I will open it a bit and stuff in some epoxy .

why not get a supertrapp? They sound great, and arent heavy at all.

I kinda like them but I run my outlet straight out the water box way up at the front of the hull ahead of the sponson. From what I have seen the Supertrapp is a little tricky to route the way I want. But I have never worked with one personally.
