300/440/550 PJS 550 or stock 650 motor

I am just wondering which would make better power a dual carb pjs 550 (ports are pretty insane, its a reed port spacing that bolts onto a pp crank) or a stock 650 with upgraded carb... Seems like a dual carb fully ported 550 would eat a 650s lunch along with less fuel and cheaper parts available.. I have a pjs cylinder and pistons and a dry pipe out in the garage that could go into a 550 pretty easily..

Depends on which pump you have. 440 pumps work best with high rpm 550 engines. A 550 pump can work with a 650 engine and will be fast on smooth water. Neither one of the smaller pumps can match the hookup or thrust or a 650-750 pump with a 650 or 750 engine.

550 sx body style, I got a hull with everything, needs nothing but pull the old motor and drop in the new motor. It currently has a pp 550 in it (its a 90 last year of the pp but first year of the rear exhaust) It has a decent prop on it as it stands.

I have an old 440 pump with a 16.5 pitch prop but I didnt think it would bolt right in...

Theres also a weight difference between the two. The 550 motor is lighter than the 650. Some dont like how the 650/750s add additional weight to the ski, but I like it on my 440/750 cause it keeps the ski planted more, these skis are super light anyways. Its not a big difference, but a little noticable. I do like the torque better with the bigger motor, but to get the most out of the motor I do need a 650 pump. Its a great flatwater ski, jumps high. I have the 550 pump and a 17 pitch impeller. The reed 650/750s are much better than the pp 550s as far as starting and reliability.
