pitted domes

this head came on a ski i just bought. i havent even rode it yet. i pulled the head and noticed that one of the domes was pitted pretty bad. the cylinder wall and piston look good though. anyways, i was wondering if i can run it like this or if i need to replace the domes. i dont even know if i would be able to find replacements for this head.

I dunno, may create hot spots and then I forget what happens, pre iginition? Ive seen worse but normally on only one side, I would run it if need be and look for new domes in the mean time, You live in northern CA so you may not be riding much right now.

junk.

hopefully that damage was done before the head was on that current engine.

you can try replacement domes, but it might be cheaper just to get another head.
I would suggest a girdled head, but non girdled heads are pretty cheap generally.

+1 for the seller, -1 for the buyer...
I wouldn't run an engine that had a combustion chamber looking like that!
Tear it down to the crank, remove, wash and inspect all the bearings.
Looks to me like the crankshaft bearings are failing and running through the engine and this is the result of that.
I have only seen one other Vilder head before...so very rare by now!
Post a picture of the piston top, does it look like the dome surface? or new? I wonder if the engine did have a bad crankshaft that got replaced with new pistons and rebuilder/owner didn't want to replace damaged head and put it back together to sell?

i had a pitted head before, but there were WAY fewer pits, yet a little larger in size. since it was a non-removable dome head, i smoothed the high spots out and 'broke' away the few questionable bits. i say i 'had' this head... im actually still running it. ive been running this head non-stop for 4 years now, w/ no issues whatsoever..... in fact, i bought it with the pits.

your dome, however, looks like steel wool. i wouldnt chance it. there looks to be too many 'loose bits' about it. it looks like it would come apart like cotton candy.

thanks for your replys. this is a girldled head, it has a cover that fits over the entire thing.
i think the pic makes it look worse than it is. both pics are of the same dome. the other dome looks fine. like i said, the top of the piston and the cylinder wall looks great. im guessing this occurred while the head was on another motor or it has been rebuilt. and if you knew what i bought the ski for , it would still be +1 for the seller even if it didnt come with a motor : )
anyone got domes for one of these heads?
