well....get this. I grabbed my stock ebox, in a hurry one day, put it back together from being completely disassembled. I had the pink wire hanging free and didn't know what it went to. I had a spare black lead with a female connector. I threw the two of them together. Installed the ebox/stator/flywheel. Intiially it ran fine w/o problems. Since about a week ago it's run like sheet. No changes to ski since I made this change from my TL. I had rode it that day without problems with a decent bottom end hit (as good as can be expected with stock electrics). Stopped the ski for about 10 mins in the lake to talk to some buds. Jumped back on to ride and it spit and sputtered. Took about 5-7 minutes to clean out, but now has absolutely no clean hit off the bottom and has a hard time cleaning itself out in the mids and top. Sloppy exhaust sound almost like the CDI is cutting itself out. Any connection to the pink wire you think? I know before I was hitting the Rev limiter, but this isn't the case now. Any ideas. No carb changes, fuel lines are clear and wires are well connected with dielectric grease as well.

I am not entirely sure how the overheat sensor works, but he wires coming from it are pink and black (ground). Try un-grounding that pink CDI wire and see what it does.
Whenever I've run a stock CDI, I didn't connect that wire to anything. Wrap it with electrical tape if you must.

I would guess it is putting it in limp mode. I think when the temp rises it closes that circuit taking the pink to ground which in turn triggers the limp mode.

Ha Ha! He said "limp mode"! Gregg, your ski is in limp mode. You just don't do anything for your ski anymore.
