SX/SXi/SXi Pro Picked up a pretty much free 750 SX

So I picked it up a couple of days ago for $300. It hasn't been ridden since 2003. This is actually my first stand up, we've always wanted one and we finally found a great deal. We tried cleaning it, the hull was a mess, we found a paint brush and some other garbage in there. Although, after replacing the battery and putting the exhaust back on, the piece right next to the Wet Exhaust tube broke in half.

Can you guys tell me what that part is and where I could get it cheap?

Also, the guy said that he put some mods on it before, he said that it was being prepared for racing but since he didn't have much time he didn't get to ride it as much. It has been sitting in his garage for nearly 10 years. By the looks of the engine, it looks like it has been covered in salt water and not being cleaned before putting it away.

Furthermore, we changed the spark plugs and everything, but before the rubbery red piece broke in half, we tried starting it and it wouldn't do anything. Maybe it's because of the lanyard that connects to the switch or something, but I need a replacement for that to. We tried turning everything and it all seems to be working fine but doesn't start up, or want to at least.

Anyways, I'm looking for help, where to start and what to buy. Maybe get some cheap parts off of here. I live in central NJ so I'm trying to find good deals around there. I have tried eBay but I don't know exactly what to get considering this is my first stand up. So yeah, enjoy the rest of the pics.

Those parts are not stock. I have no idea what that red broken thing is. The stock exhaust goes back to a water box located on the left side of the bulkhead that is no longer there on your ski. I'd bet that red thing is some sort of muffling devise, cause that thing is going to be loud. You can get a section of pipe and take that out just to get it running.

What do you think I should do? Btw, most of the parts come from PJS so if they're still in business I might be able to get one. I'll try looking for more things.

Looks like a coffman rocket pipe. That thing should scream on the top end. I HIGHLY suggest you try to find a inline silencer for it, search for coffman or factory pipe silencers. You will need to take that section out from the chamber to the hull and put in the silencer there with a coupler on either end, you could prob use that black hose for couplers.

Does it turn over when trying to start it? If so see if you have spark then let us know whats going on.

The pipe is from PJS, actually, most parts from the ski are from PJS.

What do you mean by turning over? When I tried starting it, it didn't do anything, everything seems to turn inside the engine. I'm guessing the wiring for the switch isn't working or something.

OK so the motor dosent spin when trying to start i guess. check to see if you have power at the wire on the starter when trying to start it, if you do then you most likely need a starter. if you dont then I would start chasing it back and check for proper function at the start stop switch. It should crank but not have spark without the lanyard in (if it has one)

I manually spun the motor, everything seems to work. I'm pretty sure that it's either the wire that's messed up or the computer that doesn't allow it to start up. Getting a new kill switch soon with wire for around $60, would you say that's a good deal?

Are you sure it's the stop/start switch? I surely wouldn't just throw parts at it no matter how good of a deal you got. You might need that $60 somewhere else. A "computer", also known as a CDI will not keep it from starting. The s/s switch activates the starter solenoid and that cranks your ski. If the CDI is bad, it will crank, but no spark (which could be your coil too). Get yourself a repair manual and correctly diagnose your problem. This will get you most familiar with your ski and help you know how to fix it when you are at the beach or lake and have a malfunction.

All right well I just came back from testing it and everything seems to be working, I found out that it does give a spark and cranks. I'm getting a new battery today because it's low on volts and now all I need to get is that metal piece covered in that red rubber, which Idk what it is and where to get something like it from. Any ideas?

I'd just find a piece of tubing, and stick it in it's place and get the thing running. You could get away with a cheap chunk of pipe from a muffler shop for now.

After that, start looking for an inline silencer in the for sale section. Even post up a wanted add. A few manufacturers have made these, and they look like a fat tube and usually have water fittings to inject water.

Can I go without one and just use the piece of tubing? It has a weird shape to it and looks like it would've been really effective. Also, I found the name for it when I took it off, it said Aquamuff on it. I'll put a wanted ad up and see what I can get.

yes, you can run without it... but it will be loud. I have the same pipe and always ran mine without a silencer but I just picked one up cheap so I'm going to put one on mine.

Where'd you get it from? I'm looking for one and really need some help getting/ finding one.

There was a company (name is escaping me at this time...EDIT: JetCraft made them) but they made a muffler style water box in a 90* version called the TurboMuff. I'd venture to say the AquaMuff very well could be made by the same company. Spend a little time searching TurboMuff and see what you can find.

Edit again: Never mind. The Aqua Muff was not made by JetCraft. But search around for Aqua Muff and see what you find.

I couldn't find anything for Aquamuff, all I know that is the owner who made them passed away back in 04, people have been trying to find them ever since. Is there anything about the same that I can just part from another stand up or simply make my own?

I just got a regular inline silencer, not an aquamuff. picked it up off someone on here for around $30 bucks.

X2, look for a coffman silencer or factory pipe silencer, if you get the FP one you will need to cut off one end that has a 90 deg bend. here is a pic of mine when I had it on my ski.
