PH2 vs JIS2

So, I understand the difference between the two but I’ve never actually owned a JIS2 screwdriver. I finally decided to buy one and I figured a good quality driver could be had through McMaster. I purchased this screwdriver and when it arrived I was a little bit confused. McMaster advertised this as a JIS2 screwdriver but the driver itself says P2… yes it is made in Japan but that doesn’t necessarily make it a JIS2 screwdriver does it?? Looks identical to my Craftsman P2. Just wanted to see what you all have to say about these…

Sounds like you already know the difference between the two and have compared it to your craftsman PH2. If the tip is identical to your phillips and it's labeled as a P.2, I'd say they sent you the wrong one. When you compare the two tips side by side you can notice the small differences.

And good call getting a JIS, people destroy both those and pozidriv heads all the time with a regular phillips driver. The right tool for the job is always the way to go!

You can compare the Vessel to an Impact Phillips Tip. If same, then all good.

Best test is to actually see how it actually fits the Mikuni Carb screws. The difference from a regular Phillips will be obvious, as the JIS tip will NOT cam out or strip the Screw.

American Tips were designed to cam-out to avoid over-torquing during the assembly line process. It's a "Go - No Go" approach that eliminates guesswork and speeds up assembly.

Vessel’s Megadora 900 cross-point screwdriver has been developed to the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard), meaning the tip design is superior to a typical Phillips head screwdriver. The JIS screwdriver tip works with both Phillips and JIS screws, without experiencing cam out which can strip the screw and make it difficult to remove.

So I was grabbing something from my shop so I grabbed my JIS screwdriver to take a look real quick and it's labeled JIS PH2X100. I knew it was labeled JIS but had forgotten about the PH2 part. So I looked at the Vessel ones online real quick and as far as I can tell all the screwdrivers they sell as JIS are labeled P.2 on the driver itself, same as yours. So I very well may be wrong.

Like @JC-SuperJet says, try it out in a JIS screw. It's a noticably tighter fit than a phillips.
