Other Pennsylvania fish commies stuck me bad tonight!

So tonight I went out for a quick ride just before sunset. Reg stickers not on the ski yet, just got my home built hin and attached it but didn't put stickers on yet. Didn't have a fire extinguisher, did not have a whistle, did not have my boating license on me. So you could imagine the fines... The best part is the guy then tells me I'm not maintaining safe operation of the craft when attempting back flips. To make matters worse I had my nephew with me on the 300sx I still never registered or transferred from the previous owner and the stickers are out. He also didn't have a whistle or paper work or license on him. He's a minor so I'm getting hit with all the fines and possibly losing my license for 6 months. This is awesome!

Damn man let hate to hear it. Let
This serve as a Psa to everyone else
Out there. Doing the same eventually it all catches up

I have been doing it all summer waiting on my paperwork to come. Usually I'm more careful and double check the public launch to see if they are out before I ride, tonight I got there late and didn't look for them. I don't care about the fines as I wipe with 100.00 bills, but the license thing sucks.. (I don't really wipe with 100.00s). I told dude I'd pay every fine they hit me with to save my license.

Yea I sure did. Not looking for pitty- it's more of a learn from my mistake thread. I'm really bent out of shape to learn doing back flips is illegal.

I wasn't there so I can only guess...but I have a feeling had all your stuff been in order, they may not have written you up for the flips. Once they saw what all you were missing, they unfortunately got into 'dick-slap-you-with-EVERYTHING-mode'. I'm sorry to hear that. That's a lot of money and an even bigger hassle. But just about all of that was easily avoidable. A lot of the things we do on the water can be considered sketchy by law enforcement. Give them as little reason to f with you as possible. Heck, I would often seek them out if I saw them near the launch just to be familiar to them. Volunteered for safety inspections so he could meet his quota, that kind of thing. Who knows, maybe we are just extremely lucky with our cops here locally. Anyhow, forgive my rambling. Get your stuf legal, take it to court, prove that you took care of everything like the responsible and safety conscious citizen that you are, and maybe bring a cool freestyle video for the judge to watch. Be sure to tell him about your safety equipment - helmet, vest, lanyard, etc. good luck.

Yea Sam, I'll be hurt if they take my license. They almost walked away without their clip board. I saw it laying in the ground so I called them back and took it over to them. Truth is I could have taken it with all my info in it and this would have never happened. But I believe in karma. Hopefully they remember the good deed and go easy. Hard lesson tonight and I'm not gonna sleep. At least they didn't confiscate my ski!

I always go right up to the lake cops and introduce myself, they are gonna bother me anyways so i might as well get it over with. Usually they get caught off guard and stay away the rest of the day.

I have done that before with my old ski. They were having a hard time wrapping their heads around "home built" that part kinda made my day!

That really sucks dude. It sounds pretty stupid to me all the hoops you guys have to jump through just to ride a standup. This is all foreign to me. I've never registered my ski, or gotten a license, or had a fire extinguisher. Which I've always been confused about why there needs to be a fire extinguisher on a standup pwc. Has anyone ever been able to access their fire extinguisher in the middle of the lake/ocean while their ski is on fire? I don't think so. I guess we are lucky that Alaska hasn't gotten to that point yet. Also, you should've not said a word about the clip board. Good luck with the whole karma thing.

Brian, hate to hear that happened to you! Maybe take the angle of being a manufacturer to the law as a way to get out of some of the fines?

Good luck,my friend.

One of my issues with the law!!! l will not try extinguish any fire on my ski or yours.Push that bitch away from you and save your life.

l have had several conversations with the TWRA locally about this same subject.Only because of my age do l get to make my point with them. After explaining to them that if you did have a fire "under the hood" why you allow more oxygen in by opening it up in the first place.Beside the gas tank being inches from the flames.

Guess that was an off topic rant, sorry

A fire extinguisher could be useful in case someone else's ski catches on fire...but that burden shouldn't be on another operator. All of the oem skis I have owned have had access to the extinguisher without opening the engine compartment.
With that said I don't have one on my square and I don't think I would try and put a fire out in the middle of the lake.

I can see both sides of the coin in this situation. Hopefully they don't suspend your license that seems hrsh

If it gets suspended, my 1,000 cc carbon boat is going up for sale. Complete rtr. I'll build a 16mm for next year! The extinguisher deal scares me, if it comes loose inside the hull and rubs a hole in the extinguisher, that powder will destroy an engine. I'd rather pay a 50.00 fine for the extinguisher than run that risk.

I have a SN extinguisher turfed and attached in the front of the tray for just this reason. It's an extra 10lbs but it keeps the cops away and doubles an a front foothold. Little things like that go a long way and they are more likely to overlook trivial items.

I'm still waiting for the paperwork on my new ski so I stickered it up with all my old numbers for the time being. I was even able to transfer the DNR registration sticker. It's actually legal to ride without them but you have to be able to show that you have already submitted the paperwork and are just waiting for it to process. I say it's easier to appear legit from a distance and don't give them a reason to even pull up on you in the first place.

Which license are they threatening to suspend, watercraft or you actual state issued drivers license?

A suspended license would not keep me off the water
