Do you know how that optane memory works? I think it works kind of like the love child of a SSD and RAM. Also wondering if it's eating up the M.2 slot keeping me from adding a m.2 32Gb boot drive later or if that is a different slot. It says x2 m.2-m and x1 m.2-e

The way I'm understanding it the m.2 will improve the responsiveness of the HDD which is 6Gb sata and later I can add a m.2 SSD (NVME?) and the optane would also boost the responsiveness of that. Seems like a lot of the memory and storage devices are overlapping in their function and channel usage (by channel I mean I read that m.2 can shut down sata lanes).

Honestly I don't know or care (I haven't read up on it yet) because a I7 with a SSD and good memory is already blazingly fast.

SSD's on SATA 3's is plenty for me....I will probably never try a PCI-e based drive.
