Other Paypal fees and gifts

It still kind of burns me up when guys expect you to buy something from them, pay shipping, and paypal fees. When you sell something and the way you collect money is through paypal you should be paying the fees. The whole send it as a gift thing is BS also. I have sold a couple of things and had it sent as as gift until I read up and learned more about being left out in the cold on a bummer transaction. Just a Saturday morning minor rant.

Ive never been real happy about having to send a seller pp fees. I bought an item from someone on here a while back and he threw a fit when I didnt send the extra 7 bucks to cover the fees. We went back and forth, then he bluffed to just refund me the money so I said fine send it back, he then agreed to meet in the middle at $3.50 or something. Anyways, I agree its just part of doing bizz. Im self employed and get nikel and dimed to death everyday, but thats just the way it is. I think if you're selling something you need to just take the fees into consideration when pricing your item.

I am with you. It can weird quick with some guys. The fees are part of doing business or using that service, Especially when we are talking about junk parts for old skis that should have been cut up a long time ago.

Exactly. Have you seen ebay's fees lately? You lose more like 10% instead of 3% with just paypal. If you want $200 for the part, you need to list it for around $220 because someone is going to try and talk you down and you have $6 in paypal fees to cover. Next thing you'll see is $6 for paypal fees and another $3 in gas so they can take your part to the post office. Unless the part is something big like a pump, engine, pole, etc. you can estimate the shipping in the US too so don't say "plus shipping" and then come back and say $20 to ship a flywheel or flame arrrestor. The guys in Canada know shipping is a little more anyway and usually contact you about it in advance.

I price everything shipped with PP fee's included. At least take the PP fee's into consideration when you're selling something. I can see shipping prices being on top of the advertised price. I will not send payment as gift, and tell buyers NOT to send me paypal as a gift. $xx.xx Plus Paypal Plus Shipping should not be in a fore sale add.

Whats so bad about sending money as a gift? Not trying to stir the pot here, I just didn't know there was any downsides. Sounds like there is.

Because if it's a gift I'm pretty sure that if you get scammed, your :):):):) out of luck because it was a "gift" not an actual payment for goods.

A hate getting paid for gifts just because I then have to manually enter all the shipping info into USPS plus it breaks the chain of documentation. If a buyer pays properly, click and ship takes a few seconds, there are more options opened up for shipping methods and paypal tracks the entire transaction so it is much simpler to resolve any issues that may arise.

Paypal fees actually do add up pretty fast so I can understand why some guys try to avoid them but once you reach a certain point of sales, the convenience and protection of Paypal offsets the fees and you start to see the value.

All major credit/debit cards require the seller to pay fees similar to Paypal. Have you ever walked into a store that didn't accept credit/debit cards? Did you walk out with anything or did you figure it was just easier to buy it somewhere else? Convenience has value.

I drive away from gas stations that don't take cards or charge extra to pay with a card... Convenience is worth the fee but I'd rather you just hide the nitty gritty details from me and give me "the actual price". If a gas station told you how much you were paying for CC fees, transportation fees, government taxes, profit, overhead, etc., you'd boycott probably half the stations you go to just because they're charging you more than you think that service is worth. When you're given the actual price, you're none the wiser and you just have to accept it or move on.
