Painting a roundnose pole, questions

For those that have painted a round nose pole, do yo remove the top and bottom black plastic pieces? Im puting one on my sxr and it has to get painted, so Id like to know how to go about this.

I wouldn't bother, unless you're shortening it.

i just taped it all off when i painted mine.

if you take them apart, youre going to have to rivet them back together.
