padding

Why do some folks put padding around the edges of their ski's?
I have a 99 SJ, mainly for freestyle,.What does the padding help with?
some tricks i stand on the edges, will this give a better 'foothold'? ( i got BIG feet too)

Thanks

Are you talking about turfing the rails? If so, it is more appearance than function, but some do it for function (footing for certain tricks).

Widen them by sticking on a strip of high density closed cell foam then turf over the top - you only need an additional 3/4' or so, taper it back to normal at each end.

You can do cool tricks like this when your done with ease.:Banane01:

I can do that but my big 'ol feet feel like they are always about to come right off. No ttoo sure what you mean about the foam..........confused the poop out of me actually :banghead:

anyways, awesome photo, and any other description would be greatly appreciated

And i agree with SJBrit.........that looks freakin' cold. I'm a southern boy and on our COLDEST day, a 3mm wetsuit is fine.
Cudos to you folks there :hail:

Stock skis had a plastic rub rail to protect the fiberglass from damage if your ski bumps up against docks etc. Most folks replace that with Hydro Turf when doing mat kits, mainly because the mat kits interfere with the back part of the stock parts.
I does also help with some traction.

Search "turf rails" by topic only (if you do not get anything then do search entire posts), also check PWCT since they have way more content. I know this has been discussed 384 times over there, I counted.

Your search should yield you pics and technique for turfing, extending the rails might be scarce.
