oring question

This maybe a dumb question but here it goes.
I got an oring replacement kit for my cool head, the big out ring is not continuous, when installing it should i use something to splice the ends together?

I normally put a dap of silocine on there

and its fine
then again i have seen other people use nothing
when you squeese the oring it expands into the hole as long as you dont have a huge gap

Superglue the ends together to make a continuous o-ring. I asked the same question months ago, and this was the consensus.
