Oregon Scientific ATK5 helmet cam

hangtime

Speak up ,don't kiss azz
You cannot get a cheaper cam for the money .Regular kits with waterproof boxes etc cost upwards of $400.Even the $250 one is cheap compared to what you get for $400 from other companies .

thats what im saying, and you dont have to waste your cam corder,I bought a high dollar sony and it still couldnt take the beating,it finally is starting to have issues

i have atk2 as well and its not to bad . but after watching some off the o side crew go pro cameras i quite like the guilty off the vids that they do. when my atk2 dies ill prob go to one off those but at the moment the atk is going strong so ill keep using that

gopro was one of the ones that came to mind...but, the thing that has always bugged me about helmet cams is that they would not match up resolution-wise to something like an hd cam...i am trying something down that vein...

i said better, not necessarily cheaper...

well thats where the rubber meets the road, price vs function.hd is unnessary for hel cam footage at the expense of more weight and wires. The hel cam footage that Francois took in St martin that was in your vid didnt look that much different than anything else on the dvd

the gopro is nice but with no remote its worthless to us

why is the no remote useless to you, isn't it something else that can get lost or broken? i love my go pro if turning it on is a problem all you have to do is take your helmet off hit one button hit another 2 or three times and click the shutter button. all takes about 30 seconds. after an hour of riding take it back to the ramp change the batteries and swap out the card. the youtube quality of the gopro videos sucks. when i first saw the video my cam produced i was quite pleased. after a few sessions i was even able to turn the camera on and off with out taking off my helmet.

sure its not hd quality but its def good quality for the size of the camera. for the price and the size i don't see much else that is comparable. .02

my only problem with the atc2k is the field of view. the new 3k says wider field of view and 2gb more mem. the quality is awsome but youtube kills it. i saw a youtube video from FROSTY then saw the same video he had on putfile.com and it made all the difference. the video file straight from the mem card is dvd quality but it is always gonna suffer when uploaded. small and self contained - no wires- best cam i have found.
so far the zip tie is the best mounting method i have found that holds up while mountain biking and riding on the lake

here is a vid on putfile

Both look and sound crappy to me,one has a little more res than the other, but the vid file itself looks just like any other org sci ive seen, very glitchy, looks like slo mo in certain spots and fast forward in other spots. watch some of the vids we have hosted on wavejunkies.com you can tell very easy the ones we shot with org sci vs the nice back back camcorder hel cams. I really hope to this 3k model shoots smoother vid, cause it has nothing to do with res.

today i bought the scandisk extreme III and wasnt as good as the ultra II.
masterblaster, the vid does have some slo mo edited into it but youre right about the grainy resolution but the putfile vid is noticable better. its not the best set up out there, for 99 bucks you cant beat it. i think the format that it is recorded to is what makes the diff. avi maybe the prob?

its not the res that bothers me about the org sci,we did get the super fast mem card I forgot what is was called.your right its does make a little diff, but it still looks like choppy playback, very glitchy and not smooth and easy on the eyes, like the camcorder hel cam.im hoping for better out of this new model

watch the water splash on the vid above, and the approach to the wake, even the sound is weird, its always like its playing back a tad faster or slower than real time, regardless of how the edit is cut.

ahhh, wires...traditional helmet cams all suffer from the same fatal flaw...the resolution from the lipstick head is not very good. what i am thinking about would remove the wires and the low rez input from that equation, as well as the backpack...something mountable on rider or ski, self contained, and can produce at least a 720 signal...

the stuff from the vid that Francois shot was standard sd helmet cam footage...we are trying to go above and beyond that...but Francois' footage is still pretty sick...

thats kind of how i feel about the gopros...not the best but not the worst by far...for what it is...you can't really compare any current self contained units to the more traditional lipstick/backpack combos...apples to oranges...

but i would go with a gopro before the OS cam if having to choose between the two...

Chris,I spoke with Francois about that system he had,its the same type I have that we shot most the wavejunkie vids with. A couple of us junkies went Back to St Martin and shot some footage with the OS cam,it all pretty much sucked, there wasnt enough sunlight to really make it look nice. I hope the new 3k model is smoother and the remote function is good,or gopro comes out with a remote for theirs

ttt

with Ike on his way - I was thinking of ordering the ATK3

does anyone know a local supplier where I could go in and pick one up?

I've tried Fry's and a few camera shops. Maybe a bike shop?

I believe Brookstone and Shaper Image have the ATC2K but I've have never seen the ATC3K locally.

If you in a hurry for it just use Buy It Now on eBay and have it shipped express air mail.

good idea - but Brookstone doesn't carry it and Sharper Image went bankrupt in June.

I was hoping to find it locally before having to buy off Ebay. Guess I'll do that and hope it gets here in time.

the first card i used was the scan disk ultra II and now im using the Scan disk Extreme III and i think the ultra II was the better card. i dont know why but it seems the video quality was better on the Ultra II but the Extreme III has a faster write time.
