This is what I have and I never use my bilge pump unless its when I am done washing my ski.

I know my bilge pump works less now that my scupper is REMOVED. It should be the other way around but not the case. I'm sure a high quality/properly sealed scupper will work great but good ones aren't cheap and if it does leak...the consequences will make you wish you never did it. Consequences such as soaking wet foam, time required to bilge a full hull sitting on the beach because you turned the bilge off to grab a drink, and lastly the time and effort required to remove it.

If it feels like the motor is sucking a little water...wait 5 seconds with a 800gph pump and continue on.

i have dual scuppers in the pump cavity and my ski has sat upside down for probably30-45 seconds and not much water got in, for lake riding i vote the scupper

nobody is gonna bring up the versiplug? couple of versions of it now. im running a single and a bilge on my surf b1 but i never seem to have any need for the bilge so i ordered a second one.

I love my one way, but it does suck when I'm hanging out on a buddy's boat or wherever I can't beach it while I'm kicking back. I could just pack a cork or something too. My SN doesn't sit upside down like some skis with metal poles though. I have way more problems with electric bilges than the one way.

I bought my pipe today to put in and they have some really nice "test plugs" with a rubber ring and a wing nut to set them in so for those of you who don't feel like using your scuppers anymore i would suggest going to lowes and purchasing a test plug. Should be able to just stick it either in the back or in engine compartment to block off and seal the scupper tube. This is what i'm doing until i get the actual scupper valve.

well, i have a scupper in my pump area too, it works great, i've let my ski sit for around 15-20 mins in rought water(not surf, but 2-3 ft chop) and i dont get too much water in, i just let the pump one on idle for about 10 seconds while holding the ski and bam its gone, see the advantage to this is the pull the pump gives the scupper, so it will drain water when your not moving because the velocity of the water pulls so hard. anyways, if im wrong, please speak out, but i dont have much poblems except for maybe a second or two of a heavy ski after sitting for awhile, but i just ordered up a 1000gph bilge to install as well just because if im just hangin out on a boat with the ski in the water, i dont need no stinkin suprise's, haha.

Agreed. I have had one way valves in my squares and have never had a problem. A good installation is the key. Both of mine were installed by Blowsion.

I've decided to put the tubing in with threaded coupler on end and i'm just going to plug it for now. At least the stuff will be ready when i decide to take the plunge. Thanks for everyones help/ideas/opinions:Banane25:

My scupper flaps wear and hang open. I have scupper tunnels in my Watercraft Factory hull (great concept, but limited by flappers that wear out). I'm going to cut a solid disk of aluminum to replace the scupper flapper and thread in the Versiplug to replace the rubber flap.

I have two XFT 3 inch scuppers in the pump area of my XFT, they work great, never have a drop in the boat, never run my bilge. Unless something gets hung in one of them, like a zip tie, just like it did on Saturday. That was an easy fix though.

I'm using a Versi-plug Max, works great, no problems so far, been in for a year now. I haven't let my ski float upside for any length of time tho, considering that I never let go off it, regardless.

I have an X-metal scupper on my ski. It can be a pain if you stop and talk to someone for a couple minutes, but when you pull it on the beach just pull it up so the @ss end is on shore. I ride surf in saltwater and flatwater in saltwater. The bilge pumps from my experience seem a little unreliable and you might not realize something is wrong until your ski is full if you dont have a scupper, I do run the pump the entire time I am riden so that prolly dont help. I might go through one rule 500 pump in a season.

But when I'm riden surf or flatwater the pump rarely kicks on and believe me I do burry it from time to time. My ski has never sank before and I've ditched it in the past. Personally I like the amount of water that it empties in one shot, but everybody is different...to each their own.

flatwater run whatever,anything works. Surf riding I run dual 500s in case one fails,still got one to get me through the ride,one way valve,plugged with a piece of foam on the inside,in case it still sinks,I can get the water out quick in tow even if batt is dead. even with a one way valve or versa if not plugged ,your boat WILL get away from you in decent size surf if you ride hard. air escapes and water inters 5x faster

i compete flatwater freestyle,that basically all i ride except for a couple beach trips a year.I say scupper all the way,this is the first year i have ran one and i will never go back to not having one except if i was building a surf boat.

I am very disappointed to say i've ran out of time to install even the plumbing for the scupper. Still not sure why i thought it was a good idea to redo my whole ski two weeks before cleveland R&R. I did repair two holes in my hull that i didn't even know about so that is going to make a huge difference. From all the info i've gotten from this post i'm definately going to install a scupper probably this winter though. So thanks to all who have spoken up cause your input is as mastercard would say...priceless...

I have the Blowsion one on my SJ and it seems to me to be the only one that leaks the least of all the designs, I havent used the Versa plug max, so... That said, the only time it is useful is for flat water style stuff. In the surf, I hardly ever have an issue. I have lost the boat a few times, and the long snorkel tubes on my hood seem to help more than anything. My SXR with the duck bill and non snorkel Trinity hood, sinks alot faster.
