and before u say "i didnt say that"........ u did...... u have stated that the only people who ride unsafe at this lake are "couchers" and your solution to that is to take all the couchers..... safe or not..... and make them ride in a seperate section of the lake from u and your buddies on standups.....
so lemme ask you something...... i think if i remember correctly u have 1 or more children...... if they were learning to ride (not sure if they have or not already) and u had a standup and a couch......... how would u teach them to ride safely if u cant ride anywhere near them? would u feel safe wit them riding nowhere near u and in a seperate section with a bunch of riders u have already told us are segregated because they are unsafe?

I think people act stupid on skis because they are on water, and "How could I get hurt on water" mentallity gives a false sence of security. My guess is, when these people get in their car and head home from the water, they are a more cautious driver than rider. How bout something that gets the point across that because you are on the water doesn't mean you can't get hurt.
Just a brainstorm thought.
And SFL's lake idea is fine, but there are rivers and oceans where people act dumb as well as lakes. If you want your own lake thats fine, but that just keeps the idiots away from you.

I do like anyone in our sport looking out for our right to ride like the AWA... I yell at couches all the time... and ride up to them and read them the riot act... Some dont even realize what they are doing and alot of them listen... Its all good. !
I think it is wonderful that Yamasaki wants to make the water safer. How much time and effort are you willing to spend?
I am a bit rushed, so I hope this makes sense.
First off yelling at someone NEVER works well, you are just putting them on the defensive and more than likely they will continue out of spite.
Handing something to someone at the time the are making the judgment error is likely to have the same effect. Passing out pamphlets before a ride , I doubt they will get rea...maybe after the ride they would?
With all of the talent this group has, if you really want to make a difference why not introduce yourself and give little show. Use that positive fun atmosphere to educate people. Casually mention the things that most experienced riders notice people are doing that makes them look bad. ( BUT do it as a third person conversation, not pointing out what they did!)
Even better is if there is a ski rental place, volunteer to show them how an experienced rider conducts themselves.
Both of these things can encourage correct behavior and also give you an opportunity to " convert" others to stand up.
A mentor can change a life more than a warden.

it comes down to this. PEOPLE ARE STUPID
the human race in general is full of dumb people
nothing we can say or do will change that.
couch riders have dumb people, speed boat drivers can be dumb, blow boaters can be dumb, there are dumb stand up riders.
we can't change this, we can try.
what needs to be done is broad general laws. something like: require the operator of any water craft to take and pass boating courses. have a permit or something. then have more watercraft officers out to enforce the laws that everyone has been taught.
still that will not be a catch all, look at the roads we all drive on.:dunno:
it is an endless battle. stopping and educating blatant idiots that are in the realm of causing injury when you see them is a help, but tomorrow there will be another.
all we can do is look out for ourselves and friends and loved ones. try to intercede when someone puts us at risk and educate those that WILL listen
