they are simply a spring, they shoudl screw off, Ive always personally thrown them away ( they are usually corroded when that old)

goto an autoparts store and find some brass ones that crimp/solder on.

MSD Boots are the best, YamaCat here has several for sale cheap, PM Her......... another alternative is to order the Kawasaki Boots of a 91-94 550sx........ they are the kind that screws on...... works really well also.......but expensive...

Hey thanks - I'll pm YamaCat.

What kind of core is the OEM wires on the 90 SJ? I ask because if I get the MSDs I want to make a really good connection, crimp (AND solder?). I've run into fiber-type wires on cars before and its tough to get a good connection.

they are just stranded wire......... no solding needed........

if you want a new coil, you can get a kawi 750 coil for about half of what the Yamaha coil goes for, and it is the same part........

the last set I crimped and soldered onto my 1991 superjet, there was enough metal conductor to solder.

the last kawasaki set i did.... I only remember crimping..

I just went and looked a kawasaki coil, they ae stranded wire just like the yamahas.

soldering isnt neccessary, but sure is a good electrical connection.
and its not like its really hard or time consuming.
