SX/SXi/SXi Pro OEM B and C marked pistons on SXI Pro questions

I have some OEM pistons marked C on top that are out of a 98 SXI PRO, I also have some OEM pistons marked B out of a 2001 SXI PRO. They seem to measure the same can anyone tell me what the difference is and if its ok to use the C marked pistons out of the 1998 in the 2001 that had the B pistons in it?
Thanks

It all comes down to proper machine work. I would never stick a same sized piston in a cylinder without proper clearance gap. As long as you have the cylinder properly bored and honed and the gap is within a proper range the letters wont matter. Measurements never fib. The letters may be a way of simplifying piston to cylinders classification. I have heard of it before. Just take measurements and you will be good.

Its just how the factory matches pistons to cylinders. A being ones that meet one tolerance. B another and so on. All will still be 80 mm or whatever just the wall clearence will be within specs when new. A used piston in a used cylinder should be fine, If neither are damaged. If the factory put a C piston in an A cylinder it would be to tight and sieze or to loose and not run properly. Hope this helps --Jason--
