When I put it on my battery tender the tender never shuts off is this normal? The battery works fine you can crank and crank on it all day but every time I hook it to a 2,6,and 12amp charger it will take the full charge for as long as is hooked up. My other batteries are AGM they will stop taking charge after 12 hours whats up with Odyssey? In the past I've left batteries on the charger too long and they start getting hot this Odyssey doesnt, Should I not worry about it?

page 12 of this I think covers charging of them.

supposedly they are VERY picky about how you charge them
Now that being said, the FEW times ive ever had to charge any of mine, ive used whatever charger is available on the highest setting ( 12 amps) and been just fine.

unless your charger is one of the few specified by them to use, I would not use it on any regular basis.

hmmm. personally I am not a big fan of leaving batteries on the automatic "tenders" for extended periods (more than a day or two). Even though they are supposed to shut off they still sit in a "float" state which can lead to over charging or sulfating. I like automatic chargers but I feel you have to use them wisely, AGM batteries typically "like" high current recharges (10-12 amps or more). This helps break up any sulfates on the lead plates. The best way to charge them is to get an idea of the current state of discharge by measuring the voltage, then charging the battery at 10 amps or more for the appropriate amount of time. No more than two hours if it is down to 11.5 volts which is fully discharged. Use Odyssey's chart as a reference....

All that said, I can't explain why your tender is not seeing the battery as fully charged. I really would not worry about it
good luck

I would not worry about the charger too much as long as you follow the charging tables. Any charger that charges at 14.5-15 volts will do just fine. Will the ones they recommend work better? Yes, but they can be pricey. And when I say "better" I mean they will increase the overall life of the battery (in years).

I have access to about 5 different battery chargers, including the ones specifically recommended by Odyssey but I use my good ol' 10 amp Sears automatic charger the most.

none of the chargers ive ever used can maintain the high votlages they specify in the charts.

but again, I use the cheap run o the mill chargers, and havent killed one yet.

Have you checked the voltage while it was on the charger (with a separate volt meter)? I'll bet they are around 14.5V.

The only chargers that I would try to stay away from are the "industrial type" ones that battery distributors use to charge multiple batteries very quickly. They will go over 15 volts if you don't watch them which will cook a little PWC battery in minutes.

It might be cooked. My 6 month old Odysey showed fully charged on a meter, but had no cranking power. It just died right out of the blue.
It was only ever used in a Superjet with OEM ignition. I used the recommended by Odysey charger too and checked everything out.
Power Source and Jet Works batteries are all I use and recommend now.

YES,

I piggy back a voltmeter on a battery nearly everytime I charge one.

most chargers do not have the energy to keep the voltage above 14.5 at a 12 amp charge rate.

my charger when set on AGM cycles the charge rate up slowly to 15.5 volts for a few seconds then lets it fall back to check the volts before climbing back up in volts/amps.

i have had nothing but problems with my Odysey's, just switch'd this year to Wally worlds MAX battery with 3 year warranty and 850 cranking amps. so far no problems and they have not needed a charge this year.

BEST part is 3 YEARS of coverage.
