ODI Grips not fitting

Ripped off my OEM 2017 grips today and installed ODI Vans Grips. They are overhanging about 1/2". Ended up stripping out one of the poopty bolts they provide trying to get the right grip tight. It seems like the overhang might be on purpose? Anyone else had this problem?

I don't think stock bars are wide enough with the start stop switch and throttle lever in the location they are. The metal clamp end of the grip should be over the metal of the bar. No overhang.

So I'm assuming I should order new bars now? I imagine ovp steering and a zero degree bar will solve all of this? Should I also grab a new throttle lever setup?

All depends how much you want to spend. I have a set of brand new blowsion bars I'd sell you for a decent price. You can use the stock throttle lever or get an aftermarket one. iMo the stock Yamaha throttle isn't that bad.

Agreed, I'll save throttle for down the line. Which blowsion bars do you have? Will the OEM steering plate work or is that a good upgrade while I'm doing this? I'm brand new to skis.

You can put aftermarket bars in the stock plate. I think mine are like 2-4 degree somewhere in there. Black ones.

Fwiw, you can use the stock bars with 130mm ODI grips: I did the same thing recently.

Throttle side just remove that black plastic spacer between grip and throttle lever. It looks like a 1" piece of black plastic tubing.

Start switch side, grind the indexing "nibbly bit" off from inside the switch so the switch can be placed anywhere on the bars, or drill another hole in the bars to put the switch where you want.

Note that the 2017 (and others) has a short-stroke steering cable, so the third hole for the ball joint stud can't just be moved out to get faster turning.

It also has a cast-in steering stop, which means no bolt to connect a limiting rope to.
