I'm sure Mike Serling would LOVE to tell you what he thinks of an octane in the surf. He loves it. Waveblaster069 used to have an octane, and Serlin rode it a couple times, said the pump hooked up great in the surf and it made good power.

Unfortunately, I don't think Mike could ride one for more than a week without destroying it. I'd think You'd have to reinforce the entire hull to really make it last.

Dispite common misconceptions of octanes, they are actually really sweet, They come with all the goodies already and without much work, you can make them REALLY rip. As far as weight goes, bare hulls are right around 127lbs, only 10 lbs more than an average sj. I guess i just like em, don't have one yet, but i'm looking. My polaris powered sj is a real handful powerwise. all i can say is if you get used to it, youll like it. malone never had any trouble riding his:smile:

I think the weight difference is negligible in the surf. It wasn't designed for wave jumping, so sure to secure the hood with straps and hook hood mods. Also, it would be best to reinforce the sides (like most people do with their Superjets and even B1s).

I've done the one-way valve, footholds, 1" padding, pole limiting rope, and hootstraps to mine. Also, I've put on 42's, larger exit nozzle ring and a magnum pump freestyle cone. I haven't done any re-inforcing because I'm not at the barrel-rolling stage yet. (Edit: I also have done the shortened pole, tubbies, and bond flange cutouts).

Overall, it's a dream to ride in the surf. Plenty of stability and control. The only drawback may be the extra surface area of the hull potentially increases the force of the impact you'll feel when you land flat.

You have to own an octane once.

Take your opportunity or tell the guy to trade me for one of mine.

Good luck.

I think the goodies on the octane make it a better boat to buy, but trying to turn that damn thing is hell.

I did like the power from the octane motor, so I could see a conversion for that setup in a superjet like cg racing did!!!!!

Time to get a new wife.

As far as the Octane, Nice boat, different handling. It will turn, just takes some time to get used to. I have had a few ?'s about why they did some of the stuff the way they did. Hood liner was seperating after the 3rd ride. No Idle adjustment, takes on water pretty easy. Overall it is a solid FAST boat.
