I put a 701 in my 93 sj. I also changed the CDI and hooked the 61x cdi up just like the 6m6 came out. other than that i have all the same electrics including the starter.

Heres the problem.

i plugged the connectors together installed the battery put the lanyard on and when i pushed the start button, NOTHING. the battery is charged and only one season old.

what could this be? any help is appreciated. I am trying to get it started before the galveston trip this weekend.

There's a trick where you use a screwdriver to bypass everything & crank the starter directly. (I don't knoew specifics, you'll have to search). Try that as a first step.

I break stuff
Maybe you have the power wires backwards on the starter solenoid. Start/Stop harness connected. Proper grounds in the e-box..... Just some things to check.

Double check all connections against the wiring diagram, plus check the connectors going to the start/stop switches because they are a known weak spot on SJ's.

try disconnecting the stop switch (black/white eires)

check the fuse in the e-box

you can jump the start switch by disconnecting it and shorting the 2 prongs in the connector thats attached to the e-box (brown and red wires)

which connections are you referring to? the black and white plugs that go up to the start stop switch. I checked the red wire at the plug coming out of the e box and it shows 12v. The electric are the same ones that was on my 650 engine, except cdi, and it had no problems. The battery is showing 12v also. Pulled the black/white connector so the stop and kill where not active and checked the fuse. still nothing. I will pull by e box back apart and check the wiring.

how do you get the power wires on the starter solenoid backward?

I used needle nose pliers, thanks sfl for the jump start tip, and it turned over. so what would that mean? i am a newbie when it comes to the electrics.

That indicates your start button isn't making good connection when you push it, or the connector going to it is corroded/damaged.

You can take the start button apart and check/clean the contacts. I once had the rubber grommet on my stop button have a hole in it, allowing water in and it corroded it so it would shut down the ski intermittently.

I messed with the connection and the start switch was stuck a little. went to take it apart and it released.

My next question is my primer is not working it feels like it is vapor locked. I had to replace the line because when I got my carb back from jetskisolutions the primer nipple was on the opposite side from my 650 carb. do I have to prime my primer? i primed the carb with some gas it it started right up and sound good.

thanks for all the help.

Primers usually take a while to get started when they have been dryed out . It also helps if the fuel tank is pressurized. I know on my skis I usually set them out in the sun for 30-40 mins so they gas starts warming up after sitting in the garage all winter. Depending on how old the primer is it may be worn out as well.

shoot a little wd40 into the primer and let it sit for a while. Usually they will free up if the plunger will come unstuck. If not they are only about $15 to replace.
