i have a 650 super jet that starts up great and runs fine revs perfect. but then shuts off. i belive it loses the spark because i still have fuel. i swaped my coil with sar steves and it still did the same thing. i dont get it i was going acrost the lake and it felt like someone pulled the cord off.

first of all.

verify if its loosing spark.

when it dies, pull a plug lay it on the head, and hit the button, should be a good strong consistant spark.

if its going away, then start checking why.

unplug the black and white wire at the harness near the elec box, this disables the kill switch.

if that doesnt do it, trim the plug wires back, and make sure youve got good wire left in them.

past that, its dive into your stator windings and make sure they are putting out what it needs when they warm up.

what? please explain

you should have an earth to the motor and an earth to the electric box, i have had skis before turn the motor over but not have a good enough earth to the electric box to keep a spark, also what is the voltage in the electric box when running, my hurricane had a bad rectifier in the electric box, and when the system dropped below 10 volts it cut the spark, if i waited it would start and run then bang cut the spark, just trying to help

I am learning this stuff too, but here are a couple of basic ideas that have served me well already.
Intermittent problems are the worst. An inline sparkplug tester is a great tool to see for sure if you are getting spark:

If it isn't starting and you don't have spark try unplugging the kill switch (black and white wires) like Mouthful says, and see if you get spark then.
Kill switch can be cleaned out or replaced if that is the problem.

black white kill wire circuit disconnected?

test resistance thru the stator green wires?

unless it was a new coil, the one you swapped in very likely has bad wires on it too ( if its more than a year or two old)

i belive i fixed it. i took the s/s switch off and started it and it runs fine now. my lanyard wasnt pulling the button up enough so it would die out. i zip tied it up. seems to be good
