I want a second opinion on this. My lightning coil is reading 1.6-1.9 ohms resistance and when cranking I’m getting 3-4 volts ac. Guessing she’s toast?
What’s stated above. I also don’t see voltage increasing on the battery when running. What is the output of the coil unloaded when running ( That means not connected to the voltage regulator )
Figured, ordered. That coil is toast , obviously if you want to charge 12v battery and you are using AC voltage , you will lose half the voltage when you run it through the rectifier, at any rate it should be around 100VAC unloaded at 7000 RPM'S .
Timely post. Is this likely to change the voltage? I got stupid and swapped stators and it gave the same output. Starting to think my voltage reg is the problem bc I never unplugged it (my stators are on plugs). What is the output of the coil unloaded when running ( That means not connected to the voltage regulator )
Yeah, I got lazy. I had the box open I just didn't check with the voltage reg unplugged. I've had such terrible luck with stators in the past I just went straight to changing it.When I say to check it unloaded , it has to be disconnected from the regulator , otherwise you are checking through the regulator rectifier, to check individual components they have to be isolated out of the circuit .
Usually that means going inside the electrical box and disconnecting the stator wires from the voltage regulator -rectifier , then check the voltage in between the two wires with the ski running , more checking parts equals less changing parts.
