small diameter (3mm ?) length of rubber bungee cord fastened to scupper flap - run through the scupper tube and fastened round rear engine mount.
Normal use water will push it open, back end re-entries flap is pulled shut (stops it being ripped off) in surf
should also shut scupper if ski upside down, thus slowing/preventing air escape
KISS :)

i like that idea

l totally agree with innovation but sometimes if we get too high tech there is always that possibility of failure (at the most importune time).Skis get beat, bounced and thrashed around so much that l like simple just in case.

True that... I would never consider running one by itself also. I'd always have a bilge pump running regardless, but the big valve gives you a nice quick water dump that's in your control. Worst case scenario is that the solenoid fails and you're stuck with just the pump. Being that the valve is spring loaded, I doubt it would fail, and they make them for irrigation use which frequently sees grit and such when being used with a shallow irrigation use only well.

Plus, at 12v I would imagine the solenoid probably draws a few amps, so considering the light charging we have available, I wouldn't see leaving it open for any extended period of time.
