Newbie needs some guidance on my (new to me) skis

Hey everyone, new to the stand-up world and could really use some guidance. I've been lurking on here for a while now and this definitely seems to be a better forum than any other I have seen. So anyway, heres my story, hopefully I don't make this too long of a post.

I've always wanted a stand-up ski every since I was 7 or 8 playing waverace on nintendo 64:smile: and when talking to a neighbor last summer, I told her I was looking for a ski to fix up, she told me that they had one in their yard that had just been sitting for 4 years and if I wanted to try and fix it, I could have it absolutely free. Needless to say I was there in an hour, even managed to stuff it into my Jeep Wrangler cuz I didnt want to wait for my dad to use his truck:laugh2:. Got it running with some stabil, new gas, battery and plugs, and a carb cleanup and rode almost daily until august when it blew up. So when I get home from school in the spring, I'm going to have to tear into it and rebuild whatever broke (havent even taken the top end off yet, so Im not sure what I need to do at all). My little brother and I also got a 94 750sx for xmas to go along with the broken 89 650sx.

So quick recap is:
1989 650sx - definitely goin to need motor work, bone stock other than an oil block off plate

1994 750sx - I have yet to ride it, ebay auction says it has "better" pistons rings and bearings and new top end gaskets, and claims to have only 2 hours on all this. Also said its been bored .20 over. Also has a block off plate

Being in college, my number 1 goal here is reliability and doing it on the cheap since I will always be scrambling for cash. So the main question is: What all does everyone suggest I do to get these skis running reliably before I start spending whatever funds I have on other mods?

Oh and anyone here ride in Central Indy? I am the only one I know locally not on a couch, not to mention I have access to a good garage, but limited knowledge on the specifics of JetSki motors. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

U didn't say if the 750 runs. Does it? Have you started it?

Learn how to tune these things. That'll probably save you the most grief.

PS: Everyone's on holiday in Florida this weekend.

The Good Old Days
Before you spend a dime check first to see what went BOOM.

Once you know what let go you can work up a parts list with witch I'm sure members here can help.

Welcome to the X.

Woa you guys are quick! Yes the 750 runs, my dad started it up for a few seconds before actually driving off with it, said it fired right up. As for the 650, like I said, havent been home to open it up yet, but if it helps, here was the scenario of its death. Hit the wake of a buddys 25ft deck boat and upon landing, it stopped all forward motion and made the most awful grinding noise I have ever heard so I immediately killed the motor. I tried to look things over in the water a bit, and I tried firing it up. It started and I managed to go about 200 yards before it sputtered and died and never fired again.

Im 2 hours away from the ski currently cuz I'm at school, but hopefully I'll be able to get home next weekend because I have to finish putting my new axles in my Jeep and I'll definitely snap some pics of it then. Thanks again for the help so far guys.

welcome to the x..being in indy it'd be nice to see you up in michigan for some rides this year...romack991 isn't to far away from you and would be an awsome person to maybe look at things for you if he has the time i'm sure..not trying to volunteer him just saying he knows his stuff and is a cool guy, might wanna give him a pm and ask him, i'd be willing to help ya out but i'm a six hour drive for ya

If my schedule is open then count me in for sure, I would love that for sure, although you'll have to go easy, I've only been on a real ski now for like 2 months that was warm enough to ride lol. And yeah, thats a bit of a drive for now at least, but thanks all the same and for the possible closer help.
