machined from billet parts are much stronger than cast parts
but for a gas cap, billet is all about the bling factor . . . .

Bling, mostly - but a few parts do benefit from the strenght

Strength:
Head
Couplers
Perhaps turnplate (don't know of one other than stock that isn't Billet)

Bling: Water outlets, boweyes, exhaust outlets, gas caps, fuel knobs, etc

What's wrong with bling?

In regard to billett, here's my theory:

In large quantities, cast metal, or even plastic parts are are much more economical. If a manufacturer is building thousands of skis, it makes economical sense to invest in the tooling to make cast, molded parts.

In smaller quantities, billet makes more sense. It may be a more expensive to manufacture, but it's still less than a major tooling cost.

billet parts are the only way to get precision. all castings get machined but billet parts start from just a block of metal and get cut off in about .003thickx.100widex.250"long chips, thousands of chips, down to final dimensions. its all about the controlled grain of the metal vs the molded grain, much stronger when cut from an extrusion, preferably stress relieved aswell!
bty its my job to make chips lol

ya i can understand getting the stuff for strength.. ie u get what u pay for theory, but for bling.. id rather spend money on performance stuff prior to bling bling or unless i get the ski painted or somethin, then u gotta make it sharp.

i would say i probably wont add anything until i have one season under my belt.. unless i find stuff at good price....
