New wannabee Freestyle SJ owner

Hey folks, long story short - I had a JetShed tuned SJ around 20yrs ago & I'm looking at getting another as I still regret selling that one.
I'm in the UK & our following is way smaller than yours across the pond but wondered if anyone can help me with a spec of a ski I have found locally. The guy selling it has only owned it a year but doesn't know too much about it or who built it or when.

I've popped a couple of pics see if anyone can advise. Apparently all he knows is what he popped in his advert:

Yamaha 760 round nose freestyle super jet.

Foot holds with imported matting.
Shaved nose with lightweight nose surround
Short lightweight alloy pole
Quick steer
Straight bars
Extended ride plate
Ally finger throttle
Freestyle hood cover
Electric bilge pump
Twin 38's
Carbon PFP wet pipe
Perfect pump with alloy impeller
Central fuel tank
Centred battery tray with a rickter tie
Protek head

I've tried to google bits but can't even find anything on the exhaust, nevermind the rest of it haha. It needs tarting up cosmetically & not sure what's going on with the bumpers or what sort of a job it would be to sort them. Like I say, 20+ yrs since I was into them.

I want to use it for flat water light freestyle stuff but don't want something shortened that will flip you over backwards all the time so this does seem a reasonable spec for that??

Cheers, Shane (UK)

The full length hull will do barrel rolls and hood tricks. That engine and pipe may make good power provided the pump load is set correctly. The ski is old and should be completely disassembled inspected and repaired.

So, it's up for £3000, which is roughly $3800, but there isn't a great deal of tricked up stuff for sale over here. Even the likes of std early 00's are doing £3k ish. It's a difficult one, really jealous of you guys over there haha

Due to fiat currency (I.e., currency that is not backed by a precious metal, such as gold or silver), the U.S. dollar is quite weak domestically (commonly called "inflation"). The ski would cost around $5000 here. The last two digits of the HIN# (on the right side bond rail top) is the year of manufacture. What year is it?

I'm awaiting the guy to send me a pic of the vin tag as even he doesn't know what year it is. He's only owned it a year but there aren't any service or build receipts which is slightly ringing alarm bells. Says it rides & goes well & I'm welcome to water test it but tbh, it's 20yrs since I last rode one so pretty sure I'd miss a lot!!

I've tried to scour the net for any info on it but no info anywhere. I've emailed the shops who have stickers on there (long shot) but again, no-one knows anything about it. The main sticker on it, that shop went out of business a couple of years ago :-(

A 2019 stock Super Jet here is $8k to $9k. I prefer stock because I don't understand mods.

Do what @kevbo and the other pros here say to do.

Definitely test ride it. You will be fine. Just get a life vest and get out on it. You will know immediately whether it is right or not. Take it to a 2-stroke jet ski mechanic if you can find one and have it looked over before you buy.

There are no "super jet" "superjet" listed for sale on the U.K. craigslist. Wow.

TBH, we don't have Craigslist over here, it's Facebook, eBay or Gumtree. There are a few SJ's for sale but nothing that is really shouting out at me. Only the one I put above but it's got me thinking how much of a money pit it could be to rebuild etc

Even if you had to rebuild the engine that looks like a great deal. Take it for a ride, if it rides/runs great buy it. If not offer him less and rebuild it. And once you are ready for more power throw a Zeeltronic CDI and Dual 46 Mikunis on her.
