New to the website Jetskiing since 1985

I am new to this website so I thought I should introduce myself.

My name is Jim and I am building my first superjet. My nephew gave me a superjet with a 650 engine. He also just gave me a ProTec brand F-Pipe that is part cast and part stainless steel.

I stripped the hull and sanded the bottom. Nothing is atached to the hull right now. I am bulding this for me and my 12yr old son. My neohew said he is going to give me a different engine, a 710 with two carbs and he is trying to find a good prop.

What else would I want to do to the superjet for doing tricks? I dont want to drag my feet on this and i cant put too much money into it.
I am looking for painting tips also.

hope to meet many of you.

Jim

Most guys will recommend the 701, footholds, new intake, and a new prop to start with. There alot more you can do though. Welcome to the site. Your already ahead of me, ive only for a stock 550 :(
Are you going to be riding surf or flatwater?

I will be riding in both surf and the ocean. The better Tyler (my son) gets, the more we ride in the surf.

I use to have a 550, I bought it brand new in 1985 my brother and I use to take them out of Haulover Bay.

What does your son ride if your on the sj?
I have no experience with superjets, surf, or riding much at all for that matter. Ive only ridden one season so far, but immediately fell in love with it.
From what ive read the step from the 650 to the 701 is a good start. Then i would work on handling mods such as a better grate to keep you hooked up, a new prop to put the power to the water, and footholds to keep you in the ski. Maybe quick steering? not sure if its an issue with sqaures, but i see alot of people talking about quick steering.

Welcome to the site. There is all kinds of information on this site. If you use the search feature or look at some of the tech stuff you will see this question has been covered a lot.
Here would be my starting list:
Shortened steering with straight bars(X metal makes a good set up)
Footholds
Speed up your steering at the nozzle in the rear by making a bracket and moving the pivot point inward.
Good prop
701 engine would be great
Protec pipe should be fine.
Intake grate(worx 201 preferred)

This would be a good starting point.

welcome to the site... lots of florida riders on here..

What does your son ride if your on the sj?

My nephew gave me the 2nd SJ last weekend, this 2nd one is the one I am building. THe first SJ is still together and running except it needs 4 new motor mounts.

I ride In Southlake in Hollywood. Ive seen a guy on newer kawasaki stand up out ther every now and then, is that anybody on this site?

I wish I was in Florida.......
Man, I need a nephew that gives me boats. Right now it's the other way around. I just built a beater boat for my nephews and nieces to start riding.

Crab is right. If you plan to learn barrel rolls and stuff like that in the surf, you should reinforce the hull. For normal wave riding it's not a biggie.
