New to the stand up world..

I'm coming from the motocross world and interested in some of the stand-up freestyle. I picked up a Kawasaki js440 not too long ago and have been to the lake almost everyday. There's not much bottom end at all and I didn't know if it would be capable of much..
Is there any suggestions?

thanks,

honestly, dont waste money on the kawi. I started on an x-2, then bought a 750sx, then bought a round nose superjet and never looked back. if you are serious about getting into the sport, save up and find a deal on a superjet. I know thats not what any new owner of a ski wants to hear, but use your 440 to learn how to ride, then move on to bigger and better....just my opinion.

It is not capable of much in the way of modern freestyle riding (ie. backflips and barrel rolls) but it is a good ski to start on and fun to ride.

First mods you should look at maybe are;
Freestyle pump cone ($55 from wetwolf.com) Will help you get more thrust and response at lower throttle
Top Loader intake - Not as necessary if you only ride very flat water. There are many available, you can get a PJS one off ebay usually for $70. Helps keep you hooked up in choppier water and also increases thrust response.
Stainless Impeller (variable pitch) - usually $150 and up, Skat Trak or Solas both make impellers for the 440 I think. Will last longer, give you better throttle response over low end and high end throttle. Impros can probably tell you what would be the best impeller given your machine's setup (stock? mods?)
Mikuni SBN carb - newer SBN carbs are much more reliable, easier to tune and keep tuned which will give you much better throttle response, control and should help the longevity of your engine.

Hope that helps a little,
Dan

Sure, lookout for a superjet (keep your eye on cragslist!), but have a blast on the 440 in the mean time! You'll learn a lot just messing around riding it and learning some basic tricks that don't need low end. Try learning some hood tricks, and simple things like that. They are fun to learn but more importantly you will get some great balance and ski handling skills. When a superjet shows up in your price range it would be best to upgrade but the 440 will teach you a bunch and give you a great summer.

Welcome!
