new to the RN, any reason it takes on water?

Ive taken it out twice, both times it had about 1-11/2 inches of water in the hull when im done. Im in the process of installing a solid bilge setup, but that aside, should the ski be taking on water like this, or is this reasonable? thanx

did you submerge it all? carve really hard? anything to put the hood under water?

You have vents in the front of the hood that will allow some water in as well as your hood seal. I say that amount of water is pretty normall for basic riding. It is always a good idea to have a bildge as you will want one for Subs, fountains, and all those and just in case situations.

to be sure you can put the ski in water and take the hood off see if you spot any water coming in and also start the ski with the hood off it is possible your exhuast could be leaking.

My RN when stock always took on tons of water. Get an electric bilge on there and check the hood seal is ok.

quick things to check:
- make sure the hood seal is in good shape
- make sure that when you put the hood on that it is actually sitting on the seal grooves, and not rolling the seal over on the front corners or rear edge.
- check that your stock syphon bilge is working and not loose in the bottom of the hull.
- make sure that your waterbox or exhaust isn't leaking.
- check for any cracks in the hull, particularly up under the bondline edge.

other than that, you can plug the front holes in the hood and enlarge the rear holes slightly to make up for the reduced air flow. That's all I can think of...

After checking for leaks from the cooling lines, exhaust, and waterbox. You could pull the ski out of the water dry it off well, then put a few inches of water in the hull and spot leaks from the outside/ underside of the hull.

yea, i just bought her....she runs like a champ and i cant thank myself enough for going with the SJ over the Pro....just wondering about the water, as i was told it has a stock bilge (albeit for the most part worthless). I just wanted some other opinions as to how normal it is for a bone stock ski to take on a inch of water after a 30 min ride...im guessing it a combo of the hood leakin/crap bilge....while im at it, should i just go dual, or will single suffice....also, any recommendations one where to get the complete setup with a military switch so i dont have to keep replacing them?

thanx!

pm SXIpro he was selling some great switches, i dont know if he has anymore left, but i bought one and had it for a year with no problems.. solid switch...

i always get some water in my hull, even before and after i installed a bilge switch..

I should have also added the my '98 RN takes on water, and I've never found any thing wrong except for a 1" long tear / missing chunk of hood seal on the front left corner. About 1" of water for 30 mintues of riding is what I see too. But, it bugs me since it shouldn't be getting in there! I run a single Rule 500 bilge, and that has always been enough for me...I ride a combination of flatwater and 3'-6' waves in Lake Ontario. My stock syphon was removed so I could do dual cooling, so the Rule pump is all I have...

I've seen a few stock syphon boxes come loose from the little metal clip that holds them to the bottom of the hull (under the coupler), so don't forget to check that...
