new stand-up not working

I just bought my fourth stand-up yesterday! I know, I know.. its not a superjet but oh well. Its a '00 sxi pro. The guy started for me , and I even test rode it last week. But, yesterday it wouldnt start at all. No click, no nothing...just dead. Fresh battery and all. So, my question is its prob. the starter relay or switch? I know how to test the switch but not the starter relay. Anybody know? Maybe its something else..but i doubt it. The Ski is a complete stock nothing has been changed, fact it proby only has 20 hours it. 80 year old guy sold it to me b/c his grandson couldn't figure out how to ride it.........haha...but, any help will help me.

I tested my starter relay by jumping the two posts with a screw driver. If the starter cranks over then the relay is bad... if not, probably the starter?

Make sure there is not fuel in your bilge though... it will spark a bit when you jump it.

90% of the starting problems ends up being nothing more than a bad battery. change it out with a known good one before you drive yourself crazy looking for other possible causes.

SXI pros have a retarded little 4 prong connector mid harness for the start-stop switch.

The connector usually sits just below the hood seal. Right, rear side of the engine opening. Usually opaque white. The damn thing aint waterproof and leaks water over time.

If you find that shunting across the solenoid posts fires your starter, I would probe that connector to see if you are not making a good connection in there. I ended up cutting mine out + soldering the wires together.

My freinds SJ just had this problem.......it was because his motor was seized. Doubt this is the problem, unless you sunk it. He tore his ski down, and everything was rusted. Hopefully this is ot your case, his battery was perfect, but wasnt about to turn over a rusty siezed engine.

well, i didnt sink it...(his grandson might of), but last week it started and ran like just came off the dealer show room floor.

as funny as may sound, I did find the problem, the ground cable coming from the battery had a cut about 1/8 inch into it. Reason I didn't find it was because it was on the underside, couldn't see from atop. not sure how it happen and i dont care... time for some riding!
