new RRP steering system, anyone tried one

http://www.rickroy.com/ check out the steering system,it uses the bent tapered bars for even quicker adjustments, same one Pierre Maxent is using on his ski. I wonder how much shorter the tunr plate is,I dont want to use the bars with the super bend in them. The shorter bent bars look better but dont know if it would give enough length on a pole other than the high dollar RRP.

The RRP is trick. Be willing to drop big money. steering lists for $295 & another $70 for bars. Makes the pole not seem so bad for another 8 bills

i have used every variation of his set ups and the one i like best is the quicksteer shortest plate . with the phat straight bars . the bent or motocross style bars are a good setup for race i felt . but let me know i can get those prices down for you and all rrp products . contact me at thrustinnovations.com

Brian, will do. I was checking prices directly off the RR site, they were not a high as listed above but still WAY pricey. I dont want to spend big bucks on the pole system, even the chin pad is stupid $,but i really like the steering system,I will be trying to put it on a X metal pole that is already -2 I was thinking the turn plate looked really short so I would need at least the small bend bars to get back where im comfortable,Is it a -2 or 3 plate?

Also those trim systems you sold all us junkies have REALLY stepped things up a notch,we all went out in some big surf and some HUGE new tricks are gettin thrown down.thanks from all of us,vids to come shortly

I have never liked RRP Handlepole systems. The only turn off for me was the aesthetics of the pole. I also have never used one, so I can't be so quick to judge.

However! Now that I look further into it, they offer a vareity of setups, although the coin is on the heavy side I would strongly consider a system from them if I could afford it.

Their website is also very professional. A hard thing to find with many companies in the industry I've found.

I've been using the RRP pole for a few seasons now. It's a solid product and I would get it again. The ability to telescope the length of the pole is a useful feature.

I've run two separate steering systems on it. Originally, I had the X Metal plate with flat bar.... that setup totally rocked.

At last year's WF, I saw the new steering system that Rick was offering, and in a weak moment of upgrade-itis, I picked it up with the fatty straight bar and new chin pad.

Functionally, it's no better than the X Metal setup. But, if you feel that you want to shorten your bar to pole pivot substantially, without getting a new pole...this could be the best solution.

BTW, I had to re-adjust my pole length all the way to the max, to compensate.

It has a zerk fitting on the pivot area, to grease the pivot bearing, which is nice.

One thing that I did not like about this setup, was that I feel the bar width is way too short for my tastes. I immedietly missed the width of the X Metal bar. With the new RRP setup, you are stuck with running their bar, or something similar with a 31.8 clamping diameter.

The new RRP bar tapers to a fat 31.8 diameter at the clamping area.

I had a friend fab me up some nice aluminum bar extensions to get the width back to where I prefer.

Note: I noticed that RRP has some bar extensions on their website (pending).

So, bottom line..... was it a major improvement over the XMetal setup? Nope.

Are those bars just mountain bike bars?

I don't think so. Although, the clamping area diameter is the same...all of the MTB bars that I've seen are substantially thinner walled. Even the burly downhill bars.

Speaking of Mountain Bikes...czech out this little MTB Freestyle move I pulled a few weeks ago. Crashing on water is a lot more forgiving!

hey thanks that was very helpfull,if you had to run the RRP to the max length to use the new steering system, dont think it will work for me even with the bent bars he sells,I really want to try using the rr bent bar though since you can swivel them around pretty easy to play with pole length and position height in a up down ride stance, anyone know of some clamps that will work with out having to make them?
