New NOCO Lithium Batteries

Location

This intrigued me as I like having options, and Weize is somewhat reputable for a Chinese brand (at least in the RV/offgrid/solar arena). I like the 10AH capacity for total loss, but the size 30 has too large a footprint for the 550 hull's battery tray.

It says waterproof on Amazon, but not directly on the Weize website. I reached out to them asked about any waterproof rating for use in PWC:
Thank you for your reaching out.
You can use the battery in a personal watercraft.
But plese do not immerse the entire battery in water.
If there is any further assistance you need, please contact us again.
I followed up specifically asking if it carries any IP water rating.
Sorry that it does not have IP water rating.
But the working humidness is 0%-90% RH
Any other questions, please contact us again.
For what it's worth.

I might try one in the Jetmate though, when it needs a new battery.

I have an all new found respect for the NOCO 14. It all started out over a year ago as a test for the Zeel Y62t cdi and see how it worked with Lithium. As there were reported issues I needed to debunk. (No issues ever arose in my testing) two weeks ago while surf riding, had a flip go bad, hood dislodged and down to visit Davey Jones I went. Up on the Beach, the dewatering began.( TPE 1021) thru out the entire process, the 14 never gave up. Had to do a full fuel system dewater & clean, yada yada yada. Longer than a typical cleanup. The 14 stayed strong!
even after a Full Saltwater Submersion and 10-15 minutes Under. Never shorted or quit. I was honestly very surprised.
say what you will, it earned my respect.

Update on this post from a couple months ago. After This incident, The battery lasted a little over a month before it stopped holding a charge. I tried to balance the cells.
Still no good. Contacted NOCO, They requested it back. I sent with the warranty claim form. Received a New replacement in a little over 2 weeks.
From what I know about lithium batteries, if you fully discharge them like I did, that's where the damage happens. I feel I probably caused this issue in the dewatering process.
However, NOCO honored their warranty. +1 for Noco........... I purchased another 14 while I was waiting, and have the replacement, still in package as a spare.
Have been recommending the NOCO brand to clients.

Will Prowse does a lot of videos on batteries/inverters/solar in the offgrid world. He load tests a bunch of batteries in a recent video, including the Noco batteries surprisingly.

I'm pretty impressed by the amount of current they produce. Noco at around the 9:00 mark.

I've been running an NLP14 for about two months now in freshwater. Excellent battery. I have never once even thought about it since I installed it. I just press the button and it spins the motor with ease, every time. Granted it is just a 701 but it's nice to be consistent, light, and well packaged.

I neglected my battery all winter and didn't keep it on a tender. Not sure if that matters for lithiums, but I know if I don't keep my AGMs tendered or charged during the off season they'll be trashed. Noco charged right up and is perfect...

I have now had three noco nlp14 fail running TL this year. I do minimal restarts while riding and only get about 5 gallons of fuel on a pump gas 1200. The antigravity I could run 12 plus gallons on pump or race on a Sunday with no problem. I even installed a new oem starter thinking it was overloading the battery, still having problems. The price is very appealing is why I went from anti gravity to noco. I thought about trying the nlp20 but it’s hard to fit that into a DVX.

On my 900 pump gas charging ski have had for two years no problems with the noco.

My personal experience is they do well as long as there is a charging system. I have ran this battery on a go cart and another 1105 ski, all running a charging system.

What antigravity battery are/did you use? the nlp14 has a capacity of 4ah. on antigravity's website it lists the 12 size battery as 6.1ah for the standard 360 ca and 8ah for the 480ca. Even the 10 size battery is still 6.1ah. That larger capacity explains a big part of the price difference.

I'm curious about the failure details. Did it just stop delivering power and then you swapped it out, or did it fail in an unrecoverable way (and how did you determine that) such that you had to warranty-replace it? The NOCO batteries have a battery management system right in the battery that shuts the battery off after a period of time of low-ish current draw (don't know about high-ish current draw). Once the low-ish current draw is removed for a period of time, the BMS enables the battery output again. I've specifically experienced this by leaving a bilge running with the ski (charging system type) not running. Eventually, the BMS disables output to protect the battery, but after turning the bilge off and waiting a few minutes, the battery was back to normal/fine. I haven't tried to characterize this or even reproduce it in a controlled fashion, but I have forgotten to shut bilge off more than once ;)

The 16 cell antigravity is what I ran. I agree all the ratings are great on the noco. After 6 gallons did a seven flip combo shut off like I turned the ignition off. Tried to start, nothing. Towed to bank would try to just bump the starter. Towed back to the ramp, got home, charged overnight. I pulled that battery and tried to start a piston port 440 and it quickly died off. I do ride my Dvx as a boat chaser so I burn a lot of fuel, not sure if the vibration is killing it internally, hard landings, or what. I don’t have a bilge.

Msd total loss draw alot of power, from my switch to zeel ms01 i can run all day on a nlp14
Even had the nlp9 and went through 4gallons and still had power left

ah, the 16 cell is 11ah, so you'd get about 2.75 times the run time compared to the nlp14, which is close to what you experienced. Besides having to seal the antigravity for water intrusion, the $280 price is about right for that much capacity.
