New method of flywheel removal.

Shifty

Seeing this talk about flywheel removal tools got me thinking, check out the PDF attached...

I have no intention of making or selling these by the way, just wondering if it would be a good idea or has been done before.

My idea would use your existing flywheel bolt to push your flywheel off. I sketched up something generic with no actual deminsions. I don't even know if there is enough meat on the flywheel bolt flange to engage the bearing and accommodate a 17mm socket.

If there is room the tool would consist of a alloy ring with three holes to allow it to be bolted to the flywheel a large stepped hole in the center to hold the bearing. There would be one hole around the perimeter to insert a handle into.

Then you would just bolt tool tight to flywheel face, insert handle into tool (to hold from turning), use 17mm socket and breaker bar/ ratchet to loosen bolt/ pop off flywheel.

Wonder if it would work? Maybe too rough on crankshaft threads and bolt.

Let me know what you think.

Don't do it! The flywheel capscrew is not large enough to handle the torque required to pull the flywheel. You would stretch the screw and compromise it's strength. The screw costs as much as a "Harbor Freight" puller.
