Heres an idea I whipped up today instead of studying for my Spanish midterm. Springbreak in 12 hours! :woot:
I've got a few new Xft parts coming from Sergio, he gave me an excellent deal. Ill post pics when I get them (month out).

I'm sending this Idea off to be done by Abe at NorthGraphics.com
Of course hell be adding some NG decals, and X-h2o. I just didnt take time to make those up too. Thoughts?

are these companies sponsoring you? or do you just want to put their names on your ski? either one is nice, but if theyre not sponsering you, id say go with a graphics kit that artistically accentuates the ski like a custom paint job would. thats what im doing, anyway. bringing it to paul at exocticsigns www.exoticsigns.com there will be some industry logos on there but they will be very subtle.

your setup looks nice if youre a sponsored rider. not trying to be a dikk.... just being honest. i think you should italicize your fonts toward the back of the ski on both sides. itd set a design within itself.

Exotic Signs has some nice stuff. I was going to go with them. They do a lot more than just skis and seemed a little busy when I contacted them. I got directed toward Abe at NorthGrapics and he took the basic idea of what I wanted and ran with it. We went back and forth for a few hours where he overlaid graphics on my ski.

Here's the graphics on my ski. I love them.

I really didn't want to post the pic until I got the remaining flames that he is making for me to fill in the lower front area (and the XMetal, Northgraphics, and Watercraft Factory small graphics on), but I felt the need to show it off. The silver metallic looks great.

You can contact Abe at info@northgraphics.com

The front bumper isn't completely on, nor is the chinpad, so go light on the critiquing please.

What does it cost on average, to bring your own design to a shop (say 2 color) to have it put onto decals? What limitations are there? I work for an ad agency and am thinking of getting one of the guys I work with to design me somethign sweet. Can you get templates for your ski to work within?

Marshj. I really like the big XFT on there. As I look at it, the other sponsor decals are a little big and seem to take away from the big XFT. I would agree with sfl that maybe you could get a swish or flame of something. Then perhaps group the other sponsors smaller, and in one area like the lower rear. I hate registration numbers don't you? I am going to attempt to put mine in the cup of the hood where the pole rests. I took the Coast Guard guys wakeboarding behind my Scarab two years ago. I think I'll be OK with the slightly hidden numbers.

The materials are in the area of $50.00. You can Google "vinyl graphics" to get some film suppliers. Personally, I like www.beacongraphics.com. If you have someone with artistic design and who is willing to work for free, you can get a nice set for iunder $100.00.

However, in reality, graphics for our skis range from $200.00 to $800.00depending on time to design, layout, and make, and depending on number of colors.

I have done vinyl work myself, with simple shapes. I also know a couple guys in my area (at swap meets) that do low-cost simple designs.

When Abe showed me the flames, though, I loved it. Note where he was able to make the curve of the flame follow the gunwale curvature. So i went with him.

Most people just take a nice straight-on side view and use a drawing program to overlay the design.

Ok, ill see what i can do with a swoosh/etc.

And yea I hate reg numbers, too. So ugly, but they are strict where I ride locally. So I figured might as well incorporate them now. I like the idea of in the hood, under the pole. I saw Magoo did that on his buildoff boat.

I don't think I matters what you put on a ski that badass it's going to look good!!!:hail:

I edited edited them. Mad the extra logos smaller, etc. I think it looks much better now. Thanks for the advice fellas. Ill work on a swoosh tomorrow.

And Sfl It really depends what you are looking for. For what I want www.Northgraphics.com is the way to go, but Exoticsigns.com definatly does more complex schemes but expect to pay more loot$$.

Abe helps the sport and promotes freeride too!!!:headbang:

Njfl I remember seeing the mockup of that ski, it looks good now, cant wait to see it done. Be at Lanier?

:fing02: :bling: :Banane01:

Marsh, that layout looks cool ! That is cool its on Powders boat too !
Good Stuff !

you get what you pay for i guess. exotic isnt cheap probably because he has very talented people working for him. from cartoonists to installers to graphic designers and genuine artists..... and he promotes the sport. ever see his ad in RIDE or a race w/o his graphics? the website is only a small fraction of what they have in their computers already.

its all good. :)

Gotcha - and then what about the gaps where the hood separates - do you need to compensate for that?

Sorry for the dumb questions but I am in the process of getting ready to repaint my X2 and want to look into some sweet graphics.

No, you don't need to have extra material for the gaps. Make sure everything is clean (on the inside of the gap too) and lay the graphic over the gap and all, then afterwards, using a very sharp razor (X-Acto is better) cut in the center of the gap and wrap the excess into each side of the gap.

On the hood side, because the edge is so sharp, I trimmed the vinyl flush with the hood. I only did the above on the hull half of that gap.
