Wow!! So far this morning I have learned how to 'Find a New Girlfriend', 'Make Absinthe from Home' earn $237K from my laptop, and buy a case for my cell phone.

This site really does have it all now.

I'm just trying to finish getting out of debt and retire by 40, keep on clicking!!!

Just trying something different, so that hopefully we don't need donations anymore and can actually afford to do t-shirts, etc for giveaways. If they stink, I'll take them down or at least change them and make them smaller/etc.

I don't blame you. Good call. I'm past the stage of retiring at 40...50 may be doable if my 401K keeps rolling the way it is this year.

T-shirts and stuff would be cool, and I don't think you'd ever get to the point where people wouldn't donate.

What else would we do all day if this site disappeared......work??

The retiring thing was a joke, just to be clear. Some people on here think otherwise, but the site finances have always been the site finances, no connection whatsoever to any of us that run it. I make a decent living as IT manager on my own...

Anyway, I'm not sure what direction to go, maybe we keep it where donations pay for the hosting and any profits from the ads go to t-shirts/giveaways, or stickers, etc. That's assuming we may any money from it...

Mine was too...unless my kids end up landing about $200K in scholarship money real soon.

Maybe you can host a few T-shirt design compitions. Winner gets his t-shirt for free. Others who get a design selected get a free X-H2O.com sticker. A sticker is just like a "hey thanks for playing prise" since the goal is to develope revenue for the site that is more fun than just mailing out a check.

You can use these shirts as give aways, but you could also sell them on a daily basis to anyone who is interested.

There are several print-on-demand companies out there for T-shirts. What they do is... Say they want $10 for your shirt. You pick a price over $10 and set up your little online store. They handle everything... so you sell your shirt for $15, they wanted $10, so they send you $5. Might be a good way to scrounge some donations.

This same idea works for lots of things, like stickers and post cards. You can even sell X-H2O.com panties for the ladies. Now guys, what would be cooler than your lady dropping her britches to see a picture of a super jet on her panties under a caption that says "Get wet and ride hard"? And you can have it for only $14.99.

Here's on site that does print on demand. http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/
I haven't checked it out but I know there are many sites that will print your shirt for the price you set and keep part of the $$. No cost to you except the time to set it all up, because there's no cost until they buy, and they buy for more than the cost, you just get the check.... I think...

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/ <~~~ Where you can practice making your designs.

Ps. "Get wet and ride hard" is exclusive property to Vumad Inc. If you use t, i expect my free sticker.

Been there done that, cafepress is not a way to make money...

I saw quite a few "Ronny" designed shirts at Nationals.... Kinda cool!:headbang:

True, you won't make huge dollars, but you will be able to make t-shirts and other crap available for zero investment.

Wouldn't it be better to see x-h20 shirts at events than not see them?

Oooh! You should have a design contest like XFT did. X-h20 tshirt designs. One winner gets.... something (a free tshirt! ha) and all designs become property of the X and get sold on a cafepress site. You may not turn much of a profit, but it also won't cost anything and t-shirts, stickers, posters, mugs, clocks and other crap will be available with x-h20 represented on it.

I'll stop now.

I think you'll find out, if you already haven't, ads on a forum do not work unless they are industry specific and not calculated on a Cost Per Click, Cost Per Aquisition, or CPM scheme.

Meaning, they are only worth while if Yamaha pays you $100 a month for a sitewide banner. (example)

I think that, in the end, the best way to break even (or make a profit for a general fund) with the site is to cut deals with the companies who support the industry. $50-100 a month to one of the top two PWC Enthusiast sites should be attainable.

We tried that for the first 18 months, and even at only $25/month companies wouldn't bother.
