Need some opinions on switching carbs

I have now done everything I can for power short of internal engine mods or carbs.

I have oem dual 38 carbs, TL, B-pipe, Girdled head with 35cc domes, a solas 13/15 setback prop from Impros, and a x-metal waterbox on it's way.

Of course I want a monster motor from Team Scream, or Jetworks, etc., but I'm not ready to spend that much money yet.

Would changing carbs and/or reeds make a big difference for me with no internal engine mods? Is there a recommended jetting for something like dual 44's on a stock motor with a b pipe? How about other options for a/m carb/carbs on a stock motor? I guess the big question is: is it worth it? I don't want to spend the money and invest the time if I wont be able to tell the difference.

I don't want to mess with porting or boring my cylinders. I suck at tuning carbs. I figure I'll bite the big one for a monster motor at some point instead. At least it will be tuned and ready to go. At that point I'll get whatever carbs the builder recommends.

Pick up a nice used 61X cylinder.
Send it to Chucky for a basic freestyle port job.
When he sends the stuff back, install it on your motor and set the carbs the way he tells you (don't argue with Chucky).
Now, go ride and have fun.

P.S. You can sell your original cylinder and pistons to get some cash back or keep the cylinder for your future build.

You could also wait and see how my SN runs with the race logic porting and a hooker impeller. It might be the same, worse, or better. We've probably got less than a month before it's time to break out the wetsuits and ride again.

I'd be down for some Chucky work on my cylinders too...let me know if you do that. We can send him two. I imagine a port job is a reasonable mod as far as price goes and with the other mods it may wake that engine up quite a bit.

X-scream recommends dual Full Spec 49's, but said their dual 46's would work well for me for a lot less, but still a good bit. Of course then I need to buy a boyeson intake kit for even more $. Add that to the price of porting and cha-ching!

I think I'm on the lookout for a X-scream used motor.

I'm sure it would be better than what I have now. It's not a bad price for the porting either. It's a 4 week turnaround time, though. Hmmmmm.

They are rather busy, as always.
Motors all over the place in various stages of build. I have a wet spot every time I'm there. :notworthy:

Pick up a stock cylinder and have them port that.
Keep your cylinder and pistons for the future of just sell the whole top end once your new stuff is up and running.

I am bitting the bullet this year also. I have only a head and b-pipe on my '08 at the moment. My cylinder is due to arrive at JetWorks tomorrow for porting. I just orderd the Full Spec/ Boyesen manifold so that I would have no choice but to go ahead and get aftermarket carbs too:shhh:... otherwise I would have a manifold just sitting there.

I am also getting my flywheel lightened by 0#

I was originally only having my flywheel lightened and the port work done. In the end I decided I might as well round everything out with some nice carbs and manifold at least with the carbs + manifold I will be able to use them on any engine combination in the future.

From what I have gathered you would really benefit from some quality porting without taking the next big step and going bigbore.

Get an MSD ingition and a aluminum flywheel. you will be amazed. If you want more... Go with a MSD Total Loss Setup. Will do wonders. Of course you will want porting next. Cast Lamey cylindars are great and have come down in price since everybody is fighting for the new billet model. So if you can find one go that route. ;-)

Thanks....I agree....read the 1st post:bigok:

Cast Lamey cylinders would be nice though. What is it about lamey cylinders that make them so great?

Don't quote me on this since I never looked that hard into lamey's because I don't have the money but aren't they all setup for power valves?

I know there are people who have put the 951's in their SJ's... Have you given that any thought? Heck you've even got the seadoo total loss flywheel. Although I must say, it's a little late in the winter to be starting a conversion like that.

Lamey's have two extra transfer ports.
More port area = more power.

And you have the option to run power valves.
