Im starting another topdeck conversion and want to make a totaly different boat.so far im sanding the smc on the bottom half super thin then im gonna reinforce it wiht carbon to lighten it up.this is gonna be a flatwater boat and was wondering what ideas people had out their for the bottom of the hull.im gonna shorten it.im kicking around making it wider from front to rear or just the front.gonna set the pump back.feel free to throw some ideas out their my goal is to build a backflip boat.im also gonna go away with the stock firewall save a few lbs their.thanks

Sounds like a fun project. If your going to go through teh trouble of sanding all that smc why dont you just make a mold out of it. I was kicking around the idea over the winter of making a plywood box just big enough to fit the bottom deck into. Then suspending it into the box and filling it with 2 part foam. Then make any changes i wanted and carbon it up. Would take about teh same time to sand down the hull as it would do make a mold i think. Not to mention sanding just plain sucks.

I also had been brainstorming about making a one piece hull with no bondline. Ive got some ideas for it and maybe over the winter ill think about doing it. I think it would be some serious work though. If it worked out everyone would want one. Super strong super light.

I would stay away from sanding the bottom and maybe focus on the firewall. If you ever had the chance to cut an SJ in half , you would see how much thicker the middle is vs the outer sections. The reason is to give the hull its rigiddity(sp) and backbone.

i have a blaster 1 in the shop with no back bone i can see daylight through the fiberglass bottom just before the intake grate. kinda spooky
and thats not why its in the shop

Hey Goose... I've widened my ski & really like how it handles. It make my ski way positive to my weight transfer and adds a new element to how the ski turns in & out. It rides higher in the water and it's easy to make slide when I want and it's does'nt hook a rail & high side like it did befor. I'm having alot of fun with it & getting more comfortable with it every ride.

I'm been spending alot of time considering the very bottom, flat area of the hull that ends up at the pump. I'm thinking about removing the middle of the bottom from the nose to the center of the ski & shaping that like the shape to match the rocker of the outside rail. I think that would make it come out of the water on steeper angles easier.

I've got alot of ides I'd like to try but little changes are alot of work. I'm making another hull soon. The plan changes daily. As of this morning it going to use short SJ bottom, pump forward, tray forward with a cut down FX1 top:smoker:

I'll be watching to see what you come up with. If your ever in the AC area your welcome to try my boat:biggthumpup:
